You can chose one of these for daily carry.
Al Mar Sere 2000
Buck Strider
Spyderco Chinook
Which one and why?
(Deciding on which one to buy and asking for your assistance.)

I'd go with the Sere 2000. All your choices are of the "beefy" size so it looks like you want a heavy duty piece. The Sere blade shape is the most versitily IMHO. Good luck.

Hi there,

Buck Strider. I like the design, the thick liners, the strong tip for penetration, and the looks.

I'd go with the Chinook. Spyderco's quality and service are well documented here on the forums. I would also trust the lock back over the locking liner. Both the Chinook and SERE 2000 have versatile blade shapes. It's really a matter of which appeals the most to YOU. Good luck with your decision.

I would go with the ultimate utility knife-the Al Mar SERE 2000.

I have carried a REKAT PIONEER II for over a year nearly everyday, and it too is a great knife. I could easily see myself using the SERE in ANY role, as opposed to having to use a strictly tactical or defense piece.

The Strider is a tough tool in its own right, but I'd prefer the Sere.

Sorry if I'm not playing by the rules, but my choice would be none of the above. I think there are much better choices in the basically same price range.

SERE2000 all the way. Although I like the shape of the chinook, i think the SERE's blade is more suited to utility and other practical uses. SERE is a beefy knife, it is very high quality, and I have been advocating it long before it before it becamse immensely popular in these forums.

I have owned a Buck tanto Strider and handled a Sere 2000 but the Chinook is my daily carry knife. The lock on the Chinook is extremely beefy and solid, the blade is made of 5/32" 440v, and I personally feel that the handle shape fits my hand better. Also if you take the clip off and carry it in a sheath (like I do) it becomes ambidextrous. One more thing, in my opinion the Spyder hole is far superior to thumb studs.

Al Mar Sere 2000. It is a good balance of excellent steel, solid lock, and overall great craftsmanship. It fits my hand very well. It has a blade shape that can handle any task I assign to it. It has been field tested to death and has come out literally unscathed.

I had a Chinook and didn't like it. The handle felt like a 2"x4" in my hand and it didn't carry well for me. (I'm a huge Spyderco fan, btw.)

For personal reasons that I shall not discuss here, I will not buy another Buck.

PS ... If I had my druthers, I'd pick a Spyderco Wegner over all of them and use the leftover money for a new SAK.

The Sere 2000 has been my daily carry for 4 months now and is used several times a day every day for all sorts of tasks. It still hasn't needed sharpening and will shave whisper thin strips off the edge of a paper. Great knife.

The Buck Strider is interesting but didn't feel at home in my hand. It is quite squared off on it's edges. Definitely a big honking knife and meant primarily for disemboweling your enemies, seemed to me.

Haven't seen the Chinook.

SERE2K would be my choice except that for pure utility a Buck Strider might have a lsight edge. But, given the criteria you specify, the SERE 2K fills the bill nicely.

OF your choices I would pick them in the following order:

SERE 2000 - good all around knife - well made with survival in mind.

The Buck - same reasons - basically.

The Spyderco would be my last choice. I just don't care for em.

Actually, to tell you the truth, I would try to go with a folding utility style knife as a first choice.

Sorry, but I don't play by the rules either.

I carry my Cold Steel plain-edge Clip-Point Voyagers...An Extra-LARGE and a Medium.

These folders are made with (in MY opinion, anyway) very good AUS-8A steel, are razor sharp, easy to re-sharpen, are pretty strong, light-weight, and don't cost "an arm and a leg" to buy.
