Hey this isn't really survival skills but they do sell survival stuff. I thought this was a pretty neat website and I bought a magnesium fire starter and a strike force. I was using paypal and they said they would later send me a email requesting my pay-pal info. It's been over a week and I emailed them twice only to get a auto response on my first and nothing for my second. This is really fusterating because I need the stuff I ordered soon and they don't seem to be concerned at all. Has anyone ever used tadgear? Or heard about it or had problems or success with them? Thanks

I have used them before. I have both positive and negative experiences with them, but I would order again.

Have you tried calling them?

I deceided I would go to my local store and buy a magnessium starter and in a couple weeks I'll buy some things from them for christmas.

Has anyone ever used tadgear?
Three times. Two orders screwed up, return screwed up, called a liar when I tried to straighten it out, lied to about a pre-order on the third, all that good stuff. Only reason I dealt with them more than once was that the guy I had problems with initially wasn't there any more(to the best of my knowledge), and the pre-order was put in the same day as the second order.
TAD has a slick website, and lots of cool stuff, but is by far the worst dealer I've ever used. Needless to say they don't get any more business from me, and never will.

I've had good results with TADGear, in fact I just placed an order last night. I have been blown off by other companies via e-mail so "I can feel your pain". If you don't get results contact Paypal (ebay) they carry a very big stick. At any rate call Tad and let them know you're posting about them on a forum read by thousands. If they say they don't care or try to blame you let us know. I won't deal with a company that blames others for all its troubles.

FWIW I just called TADGear and let them know they are taking fire here. The guy asked if it was about order processing time and I said yes. I guess he must know there is a problem. I hope they improve, if not there are plenty of other suppliers out there.

wow , after reading all this im glad i got though my order with them unscathed.

i bought a strider PT from those guys. that was the first time ive actually ordered anything from them.

I haven't mail ordered from them. I work close enough to the city that i can hit them on my lunch hour. I've gotten a few things from them and had no problems.

Alright thanks for all your support guys. I'm going to try to order from them in another couple weeks. If I have the same problems I guess I'll find another dealership. Anyone out there dealt with a dealership that has firestarters, cookware, and knives on one website? I liked the convienece that TAD had everything I was looking for but the shipping problems are not worth it. Thanks

They had a 2 peice non stick pan and pot combination and it only weighed around 10 ounches for 35 dollars. And they also had a near grill set up thing you could fit all in the tube. And they had a little bowl thing to make small fires to cook with to use under the grill. (I guess you could just make a little fire but it seemed good in placed where theres lots of stuff that could burn on the ground). I'm hoping they work in a few weaks and would you suggest me using MasterCard or Pay-pal, I used paypal before when I had problems so I'm thinking mastercard.

I've had problems with them, at the time they were the only supplier of what I wanted. Very arrogant. Now, I have a choice of suppliers, and I don't have to deal with them any more.

Hey y'all, if you EVER have any questions or concerns, just gimme a call DIRECT 415-318-8255 xt 105, or just ask for Mike, or email at Mike@TADGear.com I always remember the wealth of info and the cool people I've met(even if not in person) here on BF, and am more than willing to take care of y'all. :D

Well I deceided I'd go out and buy a megnesium flint starter. It kind of bothered me since they didn't have the brand I wanted just coghlans. I put some dryer lint in the fireplace and got that to go. Then I tried newspaper and the flint part broke in half and fell off =P. Glad that wasn't in a survival situation, and I'm glad I kept the recipt.

I stopped carrying magnesium firestarters because I prefer swedish firesteel and the like over them. That said, if you must carry a magnesium firestarter, make sure you get one made by Doan Machine & Equip. Co. I believe these are what's issued to our armed forces, but in any case they're pretty well built. I have never seen one of these fail in the way that other magnesium firestarters will.

Here's a review:

I got mine from a local Army Surplus store a few years back. Can't remember how much I paid for it, but as I recall it wasn't very much.

The Coghlan's mag stick has a bad rep for the glue failing. They should replace since they know of the problem. bulgron is right, get the Doan if you like that style.

Mike thanks for stepping up here. I hope everything gets straightened out on your end. If it does you can expect more business coming your way from the members here. If not... well you know. And speaking for me I hope it does since I like your website. (Hint, make it easier to use paypal, like with those guys in Santa Clara.)

Good and bad experiences as well. Ordered a jacket which came in perfectly and I like the product.

Before that I ordered patches and was sent the wrong ones. They corrected it.

Prior to that emailed and phoned with question and they didn't respond, then they responded two weeks later to a repeated question.

I'd still deal with them. They sometimes have unique products.

Yeah I knew about the doan magnesium and I read the reveiw from old jimbo. That's why when all they had was cohglans I was kinda bummed. I'm hoping to soonly order lots of stuff from tad and I guess I could call or send an email to Mike if anything goes wrong. Thanks for all you guys at bladeforums for helping me out and thanks for stepping in Mike.

The head TADguy must be kickin some butt. I placed an order Sunday and yesterday (Monday) I received a PDFed order confirmation and a Paypal request. Things are looking up.
