Hello everyone. I hate to start off in the forum with a question but I'm so green when it comes to knives that I don't have much to offer as of yet.

I'm a gun guy. I have many, many of them and can recognize quality very quickly and make good choices.

With knives I'm more than a little lost. I own the following in order of acquisition:

Kershaw Scallion (a gift)
Kershaw Tactical Blur (Tanto combo edge)
BM Mini Griptilian (Tanto straight edge)
Buck Mini Strider (Tanto Combo edge)
BM Mini Griptilian (Tanto Straight edge black - for my wife)
BM Griptilian (Tanto black on black with combo edge)
Coming in the mail in the next week:
Cold Steel Hatamoto (Tanto, seeing a trend? I got a deal on it)
Cold Steel Recon 1 (tanto straight edge)

Obviously I have a weakness for Tanto blades. Black or blasted blades are nice because I'm a little weird about fingerprints but I am not so worried about the "cool" factor. I am not a shopping mall ninja and the only 5.11 gear I own is a pair of boots that I bought on special.

I had my Strider modified to get rid of that 50 degree angle on the forward edge. I am extremely fond of the axis lock that BM uses and while I can deploy and of my knives in roughly the same amount of time I find closing my axis locks to be much faster and safer (no nicked fingers yet).

My main question would be to ask for suggestions of quality knives that match my tastes but from better makers. While I'm quite satisfied with my BMs I really would like to know some custom makers who make tanto knives that I'd like. I'm not interested in fixed blades (yet) and understand that buying a Hatamoto is considered a mistake based on what I've seen around here.

I hope to be able to contribute here as I learn more and appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks in advance!

I don't have one myself, but I hear Severtech autos spoken very highly of. It is also a custom maker, and I believe they only come with tanto blades.

Here's what keyword "Severtech" in the search function yielded:

You will probably get a lot more responses if you post this in the Blade Discussion Forum. This is the Traditional forum, mostly dealing with slipjoints, folding hunters and traditional fixed blades.

Regards,

Jim

Thanks for the heads up that this is the wrong forum for this question, AND the information you gave. I'll repost and find the admin forum to ask for a cleanup.
