tagua nut ???

called vegetable ivory, this stuff is carvable. But will it rot when wet? can it be used for scrimshaw?

Tagua nuts will soften when soaked in warm water. I don't know about the rot. Why are you concerned with rot? It can be used for scrimshaw or carving. When carving look out for the void in the center of the nut.
