Hey guys I thought I owned a cold steel Tai Pan but it turns out it’s called a Peace keeper. I really like the look of the blade of the Tai Pan san mai that’s being released this year and want to maybe purchase it though I’m just concerned about the tapered handle I’ve never really seen that design and maybe it’s not ergonomic? Just wandering if anyone owns one and is it a comfortable grip? Regards Hermit.

Maybe try the Cold Steel subforum here?

Yeah sounds good I’m new to the forum is all I may be posting things in the wrong places.
Not the wrong place per se.

Its legitimate for your to ask here in GD.

Its just, that you'll have even more Cold Steel aficionados in the dedicated CS forum thus a better chance of getting an answer to your question(-s).

The handle is well designed for the knife's intended use (defense/combat). The taper does feel a bit odd in a hammer grip, like the way you might hold a knife while chopping for example, but it feels really good to me in a handshake or saber grip, which is how you'd most likely be holding it in a fighting situation. If you have doubts about the grip but don't have anywhere locally to handle one, the best thing I can suggest is to buy the plastic FGX version and see how it feels, as the grip part has the same shape, size and feel as the real one. Assuming you're in the USA, you can pick one up for $11-12 shipped.

It's more neutral feeling than the Peace Keeper. No palm swell, less flat, & a bit longer in the handle. It feels fine in hammer & saber grips, kinda neutral in reverse grip. If you like the Peace Keeper, you'll love the Tai Pan.

I ended up handling one today and I must say it was fantastic I’m in love haha it must have had the sharpest edge on a dagger that I have seen so far, it was the 3v version though I think I’ll get the new Taiwan san mai version this year.

Yeah mate you are correct I handled one today and I like it more then the peacekeeper already, the kraton was actually really grippy so I wasn’t too worried about the tapered handle and that skull crusher pommel on the end of the handle is nasty I’d hate to get hit by that!
