I have an opportunity to pick one of these up for $750 shipped - https://taigtools.com/product/micro-mill-2019er

I read most/all of the threads dealing with Taig (most are really old) and was just curious if anyone had any updated thoughts on picking one of these up for knife making?

Knives ill be making are the various types of Japanese style chef knives with wa-handles.

Since I don't do any woodworking outside of handles, I was looking at not having a drill press and use the mill instead. My space is limited and I don't want "duplicate" tools.

I have a Taig mill. They are very precise little machines.

Since you plan on WA handles you should consider the Short Spindle length. It may be to short to drill a full length handle when it's standing on end. Looks like the Drill Depth is 6" so by the time you chuck up a drill bit you may not sufficient drill depth.

I am not sure it would make a good general purpose drill press. It looks like you would have to move the Z axis up and down to drill a hole with the small crank on top. I can see that getting old rather quickly. I would also be concerned about torque and minimum RPM for drilling. It would probably work great for cutting tang slots.
