Okay, another "newbie" ignorant question . . .

What is the purpose of the braided leather and/or colored nylon "tails" or short lanyards on the SW knives? I see a bunch of photo's on here with various types of "tails" some nylon, some leather, some both. None of them appear to be a traditional neck or wrist lanyard to secure the knife from dropping or being lost. Most appear as decoration and/or to distinguish one knife from another.

In some martial arts they use streamers attached to the lanyard hole for training and/or to distract their enemy but I was questioning the value and utility of these on the knives I see on this forum.

I'm not being crticial just asking an "honest" why?

Thanks!

The "tails" are used for stability when thrown... it has been found that they fly straighter. ............ Just kidding.

Most of the rats are black and the bright nylon tags help in seeing a knife dropped in a low light/wooded area.

A couple is lying in bed. The man says,
"I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world."
The woman says...
"I'll miss you." :D :D

Makes sense. Where do you purchase the nylon tags?

Hi Quirt,

IC pretty well summed it up. My primary reason for the tag is to find it when it is set down or dropped into bushes, etc. My lanyard is a wrist loop just as you described. However, since I rarely use it, it has another knot in it to keep it mostly out of the way until I need it.

I made mine by sewing a piece of folded cordura and putting a rivet through the fold.

Hope this helps.
