My gear I carry out is a mix of Osprey, Under Armour, Salomon, Jetboil, Big Agnus, Leica, Nikon, Sonim, Brunton, Sunto, (now we get into it) Cold Steel, Spyderco, Gransfors Bruks, Blast match, char cloth, zipppo.

I know it's important to have the right tool for the right job... But this is where my question is raised. Is it wrong? I mean to carry a Leica and a Nikon, to have a Big Agnus pad under a Warbonnet quilt, pitch my nemo tent on Tyvex, but more to the point carry a Cold Steel SRK and a PM2?

To me I'm satisfying needs. I'm choosing what works and what I trust.

What I want to know is how many of yall think it's wrong? That there is a better combination. I'm looking for a better mix of any of the afore mentioned items so that I may further my systems. What works for you? what is your ying to your yang. how do you go out and survive...? Is it with "brands" that should not get along?

Brands not getting along? That doesn't make much sense, man. Use what you like, what you're experienced with. The more things you try, the likelier you are to find something you prefer more, but just as easily you might decide to stick with what works.

People recommend certain brands and tools because they are considered sure bets. That does not mean the ones not mentioned are lacking.

If you carry a Spyderco and a CS, and they touch....they'll explode. True. I read it on the internet.

Carry what you want. Where did you get this idea that brands of merchandise don't get along?

I totally agree!

I thought my backpack was ticking the other day...

Nah the whole not getting along thing comes from the elitist attitude I see when doing research. I use what I know trust and like. That is just how it's supposed to be.

The whole point of rambeling is get down to brass tacks. So Joe Blow collects brand A or brand Q he says that it is the only thing on the market that is worth a damn. In some respects he's right in some he's way off. Why are so many people brand myopic?

Its fine, carry what you want. They're all complete tools by themselves and aren't dependent on other pieces to do their job.

Variety is great it drives innovation and new and ever evolving gear. If we all carried the same gear or the same brand of gear this would be one boring place. Use what you want and what fits your needs not what "super fans" blindly say is best with no real experience.

No, its not wrong.
Inanimate objects have no idea they're being mixed with other brands.
Don't worry about it and carry what you want.

I have to say it's awesome to read yalls posts. gives me faith.

Just ordered a gransfors bruks wildlife hatchet. I'd like to see what is the least amount of gear and weight I can survive with comfortably. I'm hoping it's my axe, firesteel, PM2, 336, and clothes I'm wearing. Next weekend will be hovering in the 40s so should be a good test. Oh forgot my fire radio...

Because they like that brand?

magpie gear
you pick a bit up here , a bit up there , a bit up over there ..

I dont know of anyone who actually uses their gear who has all of one brand of everything .

Be proud of your mismatch and bitzerish gear , it just says you use your stuff and know what you like :)

if your gear had all the one brand on it , youd look like someone who just went to a camping outlet and bought it all in one hit . Kinda like a person new to what youre doing with no experience but heaps of cash

some folk like that look tho .

I think you hit the nail on the head! :D

I'd say Becker and Gerber don't get along. I had a Gerber Paraframe and a Becker BK9. When I moved last, I had my knives in the same box and I swear, I had no idea the BK9 would eat that Paraframe!

All joking aside, unless you're trying to use accessories from one brand on a similar (but not identical) product of another brand, then 'getting along' is all a matter of what works for you :)
