OK fellas, the TAK arrived.
This is the initial, "out of the box" review. I hope to do an "in use" follow-up soon.
Out of the Box the Ontario TAK looks like a nice tool.
1. Love the full sized handle! The Micarta is quite comfy.
2. Grinds are equal both sides and it is sharp, not shaving sharp, but better than the RAT-7, which was quite an obtuse angle.
This one will get just a little bit of thinning, and should be "good to go".
3. BY my measurments it's actual OAL is 9 7/8" , approx. 3/16" thick at the spine.
The TAK has that BIG KNIFE feel, but in a more compact package.
It is proably the best "tweener" I have at this point. It fits in between the the Mora / Becker Necker class of smaller fixed blades and the larger class of blades which i say start at about 7" blade length on up.
At first blush this is a solid hefty knife, in a compact package.
AT 10" it will fit in the storage compartment of a car or truck door or even the glove compartment, but appears to have the thickness and heft to do some real work.
Live test to follow soon.
Excuse the dirty fingernails and paint on my hands, I was refurbishing some equipment, this is what they looked like AFTER scrubbing 3 times.
