hey guys!
Some time back i owned a Ontario TAK, liked it but this knife was much too heavy for its size. Currently i see nice writing's/video's about the esee4 as bushcraft survival knife. I would like to see some pics of the esee4/rc4 next to his older brother the TAK. tnx!

TAK was my all time favorite design. I still pester Jeff and Mike to bring it back every chance I get. If I mattered, the TAK would be back.:D

Sorry if I'm off topic.

Do the Ontario Rat knives have the ESEE unconditional warranty?

Heres a comparison pic of the 2. Please note that this is not my pic, just one i got from the internet.

Just click twice to see in a large format.

Yes, a TAK with a skeletonized handle would be an ESEE knife I would buy instantly.

So who produced the ontario rat knives?

it was some kind of knife collaboration between the two companies.

thanks for the pics! It makes a lot clear.

yes it is manufactured by Ontario Knives, designed by Randall's Adventure & Training (RAT). The TAK can stil be seen on the Ontario webpage.

The TAK i had was a good knife but in time it became to heavy, has a user-unfriendly finger choil, edge was a lil to thickfor woodwork and no place to rest my thumb. I actually modified mine like you can see on the pic. (the handle work is not my best:) )

I would love to see the esee4 with a larger handle. The TAK handle skeletonized would be a great start.

I do like that design - looks like a marriage of the 5/6 handle with the 4 blade... same grind as 4? I see the slight sweep near the choil on the TAK...

The TAK is king! All this workhorse needs is a bigger choil. Its one of very few knifes with a handle designed to fit a mans hand!

I have to jump on the "love the TAK" bandwagon. Mine has been hiking with me for many years and is, far and away, my favorite fixed blade. I too, would love to see an ESEE TAK.

i think an esee4 with dales scales would be like a tak with a better finger choil. just my take

I checked out what you mean with ''dales scales''. Sweet upgreat! The larger handle is actually what I was looking for on the esee4 design. Too bad the steel pommel is covered.

Although Im not a big fan on extra’s like these to make a knife ‘complete’. When I order from the US it would make the knife + scales too expansive.

So if Rowen/Eese is reading…make the handle larger and you have a new costumer;)

I have a TAK that is at least 4 yrs old. I have never used it or even put it on my belt to carry. I just keep it put up. Its a great knife but a little to heavy to carry and the sheath sucks. I guess the sheath is the main reason I dont carry the knife.

@pietje- i believe on dales sight you can buy a plain esee-4 blade( no factory handle) and then purchase his custom handles, plus they also have sheaths. hope that helped

I totally agree on the sheath. The stock TAK sheath is one of the crappiest cordura sheaths ive seen. I ordered a leather sheath from JRE industries a short time after i got mine. Get one of these and youll start carrying your TAK on every outing!

Much to Shotty's dismay, we have no plans of coming out with an ESEE version of the TAK
