I just scored a TAK1 (carbon not D2) from that bid site for $45. it looks near mint condition. I just wanted to know what yall think about this knive, and if i got a good deal?
Sorry if this is the wr place to post this. (i hope not)
Thank all;)

Congrats! I have no experience with the Tak1 but recently picked up my first Rat...a Rat 3. I like the Rat line. They seem to offer a very rugged knife for a reasonable price.

Yeah i have the RAT7 in D2, but have not have had the opp to test it out yet. I have been looking at the RAT3, and would like ur opions on what u think about yours.
I think i got a good deal on the TAK1, but dont know much about it?

I believe you will like your TAK1 a lot. I have one in D2 and have skinned many coyotes and a few deer. For my use it is about the perfect size. Having said that, I have a RAT 3 on order and hope the thinner blade will be even more useful. I do have a RAT7 in 1095 and it is a really nice "bigger" knife for my limited uses. Just a little sanding on the handles and they are very comfortable in my hands.

I have a tak & rat7 both w/1095 steel blades.they both sharpen easy and hold a edge well.I like and use my rat knives alot.

I think you did good on the price. I have a TAK in 1095 and find it to be a nice knife for the $$$

I have a rat-3 D2, rat-7 D2, rat-5 (1095 of course), RTAK (1095), and a tak-1 D2...I really like all of them....if I was to change anything, I would like them all to come with canvas micarta instead of the linen on the D2 models, the rat-3 handle needs to be 3/4" longer, and the tak-1 needs the choil enlarged to accomodate the trigger finger. Ontario seems to have issues with grinding the bevels correctly (not one of the above mentioned knives had anywhere close to evenly ground bevels when I got them, after some extensive time with my eze-sharp that was remedied) All that being said, for the money, these are excellent knives. With a little tlc after receipt, they become even better.

Thanks for the replies.
I love my Rat7 D2, but have not had the chance to use or sharpen it yet.(I want the RAT5, and RAT3)
I look forward to get the TAK1 in the mail.(next week "i hope")
When i get it in i will play around with it awhile, and tell everyone what i think of it. Im sure it will be a great knive.
Has anyone heard if Camilius will be going out of Biz?

I’m also getting a TAK (1095) by mail this week. I will ad you started thread whit some thoughts about the knife.

Do you get a D2 or 1095?

I recently purchased the TAK1 D2 for about $74.00 while I can get a working edge on it I haven't yet been able to get a shaving sharp edge on it I use Razor-Edge sharpening stones dry. I have gotten shaving sharp edges on my other knives for the most part very easily but this one isn't doing it. This is my first D2 steel knife.

Is this normal for D2 ???????????????????????????

I have spent considerable time on this blade. I notice the grind on the front near the tip seems to be a little uneven when it was shipped to me but has improved with my sharpening efforts, it not nearly as noticable but still is not quite perfect.

Any advice on whether I should expect this on the TAK1 D2 as well as any solutions would be appreciated

It's "normal"; D2 takes a little longer than most steels to sharpen.

Diamond stones are good for use on D2.

Hey, I also got a TAK 1 this week!

Mine is in 1095.

I have a lot of blades in D2 and not enough in 1095.
IMO.

I have the Tak1 in 1095. It is one tough knife. I have chopped, dug and cut brush with mine and it just shrugs off abuse.
