Take a look at this sheath maker!

I wonder if he is related to the saddlemakers? Severe Bronc saddles where some of the best ever made. I had one when i was younger and thinner in another life.

Eric, Robin IS a saddle maker and I do believe he is related to the makers you reference.

He's VERY talented indeed.

I've been admiring Mr. Severe's work. He's VERY talented as are most saddle makers who make sheaths from time to time.
Their's a particular saddle maker in Texas (I'm sure more who I don't know) who makes outstanding sheaths as well. The problem is they often only make a very limited number of sheaths for a select few individuals.

Paul, have you ever made saddles?

Yep, Robin comes from a long history line of high quality saddle makers that used to work for Hamley Saddle Co. a 125 year old company still in business in Pendleton Ore. Robin makes the presentation saddle every year for the Pendleton Roundup. He has been one my friends for several years and a great outdoorsman. He works winters for the Game Dept but I got this one before it snowed. I really like his rawhide and knot work.

Thats a nice looking saddle Paul, this coming from somebody that knows nothing about what a good saddle looks like. :)

Beautiful work! I too am a big fan of the braiding and rawhide work and would love to learn it someday.

Nice work!! I am not surprised that a saddlemaker can shine with sheaths. I got to watch an old time sadllemaker, one of the Menia brothers, work on a tooled up saddle and was just as mesmerized as watching a fine knife wip.
Thanks for sharing. And paul, nice saddle.

What a great looking sheath. I love it.

That it was posted and admired by the revered Paul Long speaks loudly of his nature.

BTW, on that marvelous saddle you posted, Paul....

Is that an emoticon you have as a logo? (^:

;)

Oh, hay! Great knives and photo by Buddy! Lemme see more of that checkering sometime.

Bruce you didnt happen to have a wip on that ring guard (leaver action looking) fighter ?

You betcha - quite a story to this one, too:

I'm not generally a fan of ring guards, but the innovative and elegant ring-and-a half design of this piece, skillfully blended into the handle itself captivated me from the outset. It's my favourite ring guard knife by far. Robin, of course, did it proud with that superb sheath.

That's a gorgeous sheath, very pleasing to the eye.

(nice saddle paul!)

And Robin is a hell of a nice guy to boot. Went and visited him with Bruce when he was constructing the sheath for Roger's winding feather bowie and could have easily spent all day there. He also forges/makes his own edgers for leather with curly maple handles which he insisted i take one back to Oz with me:D

Robin is making the sheath for a St Judes benefit knife that Karl Andersen, Doug Campbell and myself are making. Our interest in traditional archery brought us together. I look forward to seeing the project when it gets done.

As mentioned Robin has a well known name in the western & saddle making community. His work is much admired.
