Coop. You were absolutely correct!
My knife arrived here today, and I am absolutely astounded at its quality
For such a "plain" knife, there is actually so much going on. The stainless steel bolsters are integral with the liners, highly polished on the bolster face but with a satin finish on all other faces. The liner/bolster has an undercut milled into it to take the scales. But the gold lip pearl scales have been first backed with a black material, which shows up as a black line between the scales and the bolster, and also gives the impression of black coloured "false" liners.
The gold lip pearl scales are, for want of a better word, perfect. With three fine nickel silver flush pins.
The backspring is satin finished on the outside, and when the knife is open, the gap between the blade and the spring is imperceptible. It is the finest line that one can imagine. There is also a half stop position. Looking inside is a joy to behold! The inner face of the backspring is mirror polished. In fact the whole of the inside is mirror polished! Fantastic attention to detail.
Then there is the business part. The blade. ATS-34 steel, of a really pleasing profile, and with a grind that is absolute perfection where it turns into the tang. And dead symmetrical each side. Flawlessly perfect.
And finally, the blade closes with a reassuringly good snap, and is dead centre.
Overall, without a doubt, the most pleasing knife in my whole collection of 153 knives. That good!
Thanks to Bob Glassman for making it available to me, and of course, to Ray Cover Sr. for making it.
And yes Coop. You were 100% right in your anticipation of how it would be.
Regards
Rod
