It is a Ray Cover Sr. slip joint. My first. I can't wait to get her next week.

I challenge you to find a flaw in that knife. Outstanding choice!

You're hooked. :p

I have a few of Cover's single blade folders.REAL nice stuff.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and make the statement that NOBODY does the kind of work that Ray Cover Sr. does at the prices Ray charges. Hopefully, I won't get flamed too much, but I really believe this.

In fact the quality and precision of his work is so far above many makers more than double or even quadruple his price range that I'm almost exclusively a Ray Cover collector as far as my custom folder collection is concerned. I heard Ray say once that he isn't very artistic...I disagree, his work is definately a work of art in my opinion!

Rod,

I also agonised a little trying to decide between the one I chose and the sambar stag handled one. I liked the wood better but I thought the stag one would take on a nice character over time and become even nicer looking. I almost bought them both. Well too bad for budgets. Now, I am off to the exchange to sell a Tachyon to help pay for this.

Immediately after writing that, I gave in to myself and ordered that Ray Cover pearl. :)

It isn't the first time that I have bought from Bob Glassman, and it certainly won't be the last. He's a great guy, and incredibly helpful.

As you say... so much for budgets. I am trying to reserve some money for the Bailey Bradshaw custom that I ordered from him a while back (with strong hints that it would be nice to have it in time for my birthday at the end of January - but I have to be patient! - but the hint still stands.)

I do like all of those Ray Cover knives! I am a sucker for understated simplicity in a knife design, that at the same time just oozes quality and craftsmanship.

Cheers
Rod

I got my knife today and it is truely a fine piece of craftsmanship. It looks even nicer in person than in the photo. I would describe it as breathtaking. The fit and finish is amazing. The wood is dovetailed and the action is very tight and deliberate. I know it will smooth over time with use. It is also quite slender. All the better to make it disappear in my front right pocket. Don't worry though, I keep my keys in my left hand pocket. One of the best parts about a harmless knife like this is I can show it off. It begs to be seen.

Well, is it as good as Coop said it would be when he wrote "I challenge you to find a flaw in that knife"?

I have to be patient and wait for mine to travel over the pond.

Others here who may be wondering where we found these, I make no apologies for pointing you to Bob Glassman's site:

Coop. You were absolutely correct!

My knife arrived here today, and I am absolutely astounded at its quality :D

For such a "plain" knife, there is actually so much going on. The stainless steel bolsters are integral with the liners, highly polished on the bolster face but with a satin finish on all other faces. The liner/bolster has an undercut milled into it to take the scales. But the gold lip pearl scales have been first backed with a black material, which shows up as a black line between the scales and the bolster, and also gives the impression of black coloured "false" liners.

The gold lip pearl scales are, for want of a better word, perfect. With three fine nickel silver flush pins.

The backspring is satin finished on the outside, and when the knife is open, the gap between the blade and the spring is imperceptible. It is the finest line that one can imagine. There is also a half stop position. Looking inside is a joy to behold! The inner face of the backspring is mirror polished. In fact the whole of the inside is mirror polished! Fantastic attention to detail.

Then there is the business part. The blade. ATS-34 steel, of a really pleasing profile, and with a grind that is absolute perfection where it turns into the tang. And dead symmetrical each side. Flawlessly perfect.

And finally, the blade closes with a reassuringly good snap, and is dead centre.

Overall, without a doubt, the most pleasing knife in my whole collection of 153 knives. That good!

Thanks to Bob Glassman for making it available to me, and of course, to Ray Cover Sr. for making it.

And yes Coop. You were 100% right in your anticipation of how it would be.

Regards
Rod

These folders really are nice looking. Mr. Cover really puts one together well.

Rod and Jon,

I only made quick mention of that aspect because I, too, have one of his folders similar to yours. It's the most clean, well-executed piece of cutlery one could hope for.

Shhhhh, let's keep him a secret to ourselves... ;)

Congrats to you guys. :) What a value and good choices as well as a good thread.

OK... a secret it is then.....
but just in case someone found out before I had the chance.....

I've been bad. .... Erm... downright self-indulgent bad.
And just ordered another one from Bob Glassman, who has been kind enough to organise some gold engraving on it for me by Jere Davidson. This is the knife.... with an inset of what the engraving will be approximately like.

What knifeshows does he attend?
Does he have a web-site?
What is his contact information?

Thanks!

I don't know the answer to any of those questions!

However, I make no apologies for pointing you to Bob Glassman's site:

There are four remaining unsold, and they are superb value at those prices. And Bob will certainly look after you and treat you as a very valued customer.

Rod
