This is my last one for the year. A take-down bowie with some really cool (I think so anyway :) ) amboyna burl. This one I will probably take to a show in a few weeks.

Specs:
Forged from 1075 steel, clay quenched
13 1/4" overall, 8 1/2" blade, .220 thick at the ricasso
Guard, spacers and collars are carbon fiber
Handle is stabilized amboyna burl
Blued steel finial nut

All comments and discussion welcome.

That color variation of the handle material would put me off as a potential buyer.

You executed the guard shape very well. Fit and finish looks superb and I wish you well in the sale of this knife.

Best Regards,

John, Beautifully made knife I like everything about it but got to agree with STeven the two tone wood just does not do it for me. I know a lot will like it though.
Just my two cents worth!

Thanks everyone for the comments.

This was originally going to have walrus ivory for the handle which was mostly white. I had a carbon fiber butt cap made too so I'd have black on each end of the white. But the ivory kept moving a little so I guess it was not ready to use yet.

I wanted something that would work well with the black fittings as I didn't want to have to remake fittings. This block of wood with the black on the back was something that I wanted to try.

I personally like it. But I also knew that it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. It's not the first time I've used a two tone wood on a handle. Some loved that one and some were turned off by it. And that's okay. There's something out there for everyone. :)

Thanks for posting guys.

I really like the blued fittings. The handle color variations are what would draw me to this knife; love the handle (but of course I'm a Micarta lover)!

John All your work looks so good I have yet to see a knife of yours I did not like. I see it made it over to the best Bowie thread and it should do very well cant wait to see what you come up with for us in 2013.

Very nice work John.
You have come a long way in the last few years.
Each new knife seems to be a little bit better than the one before.

Very nice John. I really like the flute on the butt end of the handle, everything fits really well together on this one.

I think you did a great job, and I personally like the way the darker butt end of the handle echoes the guard....

I love interesting wood, and this is a really cool piece of amboyna - glad it made it onto your knife:D
