Take down or fix?

Made a knife. 9" blade, long tang with butt nut. The internal surfaces are not perfect. Shall I leave it a "take down" or should I assemble it permanently so the customer will never see the insides. I am not saying they are flawed or bad or damaged. They are simply not exhibition grade.

I would go ahead and make it fixed if it were me. But that is just me. That raises a question I have, why would a customer want a knife that could be dissasssembled?

That knife is beautiful! Glue it up and sell it to a new lucky owner.

I have to agree that is a great looking knife and I can not see why anyone would want to take it apart..steve

Glue it up ***or*** make different guards, handle and spacer blocks for it. so the customer can customize it to his or her delight. :D

I think it depends on what the customer is paying and expecting and what you promised. That looks like an incredible blade to me. Glue it up unless the customer expected otherwise.

I'll be the odd one out and say take down. Being able to take it apart is just cool. Well for me anyway. :D

Yep. You're not odd alone.
Also depends upon the quality of the take-down assembly.
It should look AND function as if it was MEANT to be a take-down.

I always strive to have the inside look as good but it doesnt always happen.

Does this mean that the inside parts of a take down should be finished as well as the outside of the knife? :(

That's a bit of a bummer. I mean, I was not gonna leave it looking like crap but I did not know that such a high level of finish was expected. Oh well what's couple of hours more work. :(

Bruce, at least the inside of your knives look better than the outside of mines. ;)
