Taking a serious look at my changing up my tools need advice

ok so here is the deal: I have a pretty much brand new ASP 21" air weight, dura tech grip tactical tactical baton that I picked up with the intention of having a self defense tool that wasn't sharp. I have since come to the conclusion that I never should have wasted the money on this when I have been wanting a Spyderco for a while and I could have basically bought a new Spyderco and had change left over. So I have this thing up for sale or trade right now and I don't mind trading his thing for a used knife, but realistically what should I go for and what is the "trade value" in Spyder dollars? I am not picky and would honestly trade for just about anything at his point, so any help is appreciated.

You need a gold membership to ask about values, and to sell on the forum, and I think that applies to trades as well. I'm sure someone will be along to confirm or refute this.

I suggest you grab a Spyderco that cuts and carries well first, intended as self defense second. In the hopes you never need it. Might want to invest in something non-lethal as well, or if you use it you might be up on some serious charges in court. Also check your knife and concealed carry laws for the state you're in.

That being said, I love the shape of the PM2 and Military both for work and SD. I really enjoy the compression lock on the PM2, and you can find it on two self-defense knives as well, the Szabo (huge knife) and the Yojimbo 2. I'm thinking you'd be really happy with any of those, but Spyderco also has a waved Endura and a waved Matriarch 2, both of which deploy as you snag them on your pocket pulling the knife out. The Matriarch is a really poor choice for EDC however, and if a cop catches a look at it in some places, you're screwed by default.

Thank you for the input. I like the matriarch and Endura waves. wish I could handle a few and see. Is the wave really that much of an improvement?

To clarify, This item is not for sale or trade on blade forum and no online trades offers or cash payments will be accepted on this forum or any other. I am dealing with this item off line and in person with a few people I know. The values I seek are general used knife resale values of Spyderco knives that are suggested. New prices are readily available.

Maybe I should rephrase the question to simply ask What is the best Spyderco folding knife you would pay 100.00 or less for new or used. Thanks again

Can you carry a fixed blade? Becker BK11, BK14, BK24. ESEE Izula I and II.

Folders that come to mind are Endura, Resilience, Griptilian, PM2 is a little more than $100 stock price. Rat 1 from Ontario is a GREAT knife for $30. Cold Steel has a ton of knives for SD that are right up your alley. A lot of them are huge and wicked looking and work well.

I have a CS recon 1 and it's been on for certain things. Fixed blades are not a problem and I have considered the Becker line. Thanks for the suggestions. Is the Rat 1 the alleged(issued but never carried) Navy Seal knife?

Never heard of that. I was gifted one recently and have been carrying it over my higher end knives. Feels super comfortable in hand, deploys fast. Same AUS8 steel.

I love AUS8 and the Recon 1 is a Hoss so I would like that steel in smaller package. I have nothing against RATs as I haven't directly dealt with them and I have actually heard some good things, your suggestion included. I just read somewhere a while back that Seals took their RATs and used them for crap jobs around the place; basically a turd beater or something I dunno and they bought what they really wanted when the boss wasn't looking or something. It may be a different RAT, but that reminds me, I hate how knife companies send a unit of military some knives to play with and then claim they are the choice of said special forces groups in US military or some other vague accomplishment. Ontario maybe made the Ka Bar for USMC too and I might just be confused dude I am rambling over here....

Ka-Bar makes the Ka-Bar USMC, however there were a bunch of companies who made and still make variants, and Ka-Bar wasn't the original if I recall. Ontario makes some nice stuff. I personally love the ergonomics of the Rat 1, and compare it favorably to my favorite, the Paramilitary 2. I can't recommend either enough. Again though you were talking about SD, and I still say the blade shape of the PM2 or Military would make you very happy.

Or you could get a serrated Vaquero or a Spartan. :)
