Taking a trip from California to Connecticut

Let's see here, Connecticut General Assembly, Chapter 943 Offenses Against Public Peace and Safety.
Sec. 53-206. Carrying of dangerous weapons prohibited. (a) Any person who carries upon his or her person any BB. gun, blackjack, metal or brass knuckles, or any dirk knife, or any switch knife, or any knife having an automatic spring release device by which a blade is released from the handle, having a blade of over one and one-half inches in length, or stiletto, or any knife the edged portion of the blade of which is four inches or more in length, any police baton or nightstick, or any martial arts weapon or electronic defense weapon, as defined in section 53a-3, or any other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument, shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than three years or both. Whenever any person is found guilty of a violation of this section, any weapon or other instrument within the provisions of this section, found upon the body of such person, shall be forfeited to the municipality wherein such person was apprehended, notwithstanding any failure of the judgment of conviction to expressly impose such forfeiture.

Basically, if it's a regular folder the edge has to be less than 4 inches. Not so bad. Switchblades are also allowed, but they have to have itty bity 1.5" blades. I guess that is in there to exempt certain types of hobby knives with retractable blades.

Keep in mind this law applies whether the knife is concealed or openly carried. It also has a few exceptions of note:
(C) any person while transporting such knife as merchandise or for display at an authorized gun or knife show,
(D) any person who is found with any such knife concealed upon one's person while lawfully removing such person's household goods or effects from one place to another, or from one residence to another,
(E) any person while actually and peaceably engaged in carrying any such knife from such person's place of abode or business to a place or person where or by whom such knife is to be repaired, or while actually and peaceably returning to such person's place of abode or business with such knife after the same has been repaired,
(F) any person holding a valid hunting, fishing or trapping license issued pursuant to chapter 490 or any salt water fisherman carrying such knife for lawful hunting, fishing or trapping activities, or
(G) any person while participating in an authorized historic reenactment;
(4) the carrying by any person enrolled in or currently attending, or an instructor at, a martial arts school of a martial arts weapon while in a class or at an authorized event or competition or while transporting such weapon to or from such class, event or competition;
(5) the carrying of a BB. gun by any person taking part in a supervised event or competition of the Boy Scouts of America or the Girl Scouts of America or in any other authorized event or competition while taking part in such event or competition or while transporting such weapon to or from such event or competition; and
(6) the carrying of a BB. gun by any person upon such person's own property or the property of another person provided such other person has authorized the carrying of such weapon on such property, and the transporting of such weapon to or from such property.

The law enforcement personnel in Connecticut will have little to no concern over that knife, Your only issue will be boarding a plane with it.

There is one cop from CT that I know from online. He dislikes me for all the wrong reasons (I wouldn't have an issue with some one disliking me, but his reasons aren't true, but that's a-whole-nother issue and this is about knife laws XD) so what could he try to do if he wanted?

As for boarding a plane, that was the additional thing I wanted to know. I'm assuming it would be impossible to board a plane with that, especially from LAX or Burbank, but if I just toss it in my luggage will it be fine?

As long as the blade length is below 4", There would not be much he could do unless you did something wrong that law enforcement officers had to respond to. I suppose if he has a grudge against you and knew exactly where and when you would be, He could follow and wait for the smallest infraction to pull you over and then who knows from there, But depending on where in Ct. you are going, Police have their hands full with the normal daily routine. I carried various pocket knives including ones with blades 4" and longer on occasion for 30 years in Connectciut including a folder in a sheath on my belt when I was 16 and never had any issues with the P.D.
As far as boarding a plane, I've never flown but I had to see my brother off at Kennedy Airport in N.Y. once and the officials there would not let me past the metal detector area to say goodbye to my Bro unless I left the knife with them, That was long before any of the current measures they take now. A few years ago I had to pick up a relative at the airport in Hartford, Ct. and there were military on premises checking cars before you could even enter the airport. I don't know for sure but I would be surprised if they let you on a plane with your knife and if you attempt to hide it and they catch you, You will probably be treated like a terrorist, I would probably mail the knife to someone in Ct. in retreive it in person.
My opinions of course. I'm not L.E.O.

I don't know about putting it in luggage, Maybe a forum member with recent flying experience could answer to that.

I flew internationally last year. Yes, nearly anything that isn't an explosive, contagious, or burst-risk (certain aerosol cans and lighters) can be in checked luggage. Because it is stored where you cannot get to it, officials have no problems with it. You can even check guns, though you have to follow some special rules for packing those. Knives are fine in any checked bag. The only risk is theft, though it is no greater than the risk of theft of any other item in your luggage.

Actually he knows exactly where I will be, but he doesn't know I'm going in the first place yet (though he might before or when I get there). I believe he is an officer for another city/town, I don't know a lot about how officers work so I don't know how exactly that could affect anything.

That's actually the exact airport I will arrive at. glistam above says I shouldn't have an issue, but do you think I should send it anyway? Though you may have confused it with a carry-on and it will most definitely be in my luggage.

You can check the knife in your luggage with no issues. I've flown many dozens of times and packed my EDC knife with my luggage and never had any issues. My suitcase has been randomly searched by the TSA multiple times and I've never had an issue with knives or anything else being stolen.

My girlfriend and I flew to Las Vegas last November to visit her son, daughter-in-law and baby grand-daughter. I brought two knives with me: Victorinox German-Army pocketknife and a 4" Cold Steel "Voyager" lockblade folder. Both knives went into a a pair of well-worn (and rather smelly!) running shoes, and kept in place by a pair of dirty gym socks and stowed in my checked luggage. Same arrangement on the return trip. Carried both knives daily in Vegas. Never had a problem with TSA or Vegas Metro PD.
