Has anybody successfully taken apart a kershaw black out to clean it?

The speedsafe mechanism concerns me.

If you are feeling adventurous and wanna void the warantee, I believe someone posted about his adventures disassembling his chive (I believe, mighta been a scallion). Try a search or two.

I've taken apart my Chive a numer of times. That Speed-Safe bar is easier to put back properly than any auto I've taken apart. The great thing is, there's only one way to put it back, so you can't screw it up, and when extended, the bar is under zero tension.

It's a snap.

I haven't taken any of my Speed-Safes apart, but some pictures of the "insides" were published recently in one of the major mags. It really looks pretty straight forward.

Well I'm too tired tonight, but tommrow I'll give it a shot and let you guy's know what happens.

Well, I FINALLY, got around to doing this.

Not to hard. The trickiest part is taking out the screw at the very rear of the handle.

I was amazed when I got it open. I pictured the torson bar to be really complex. Well I was wrong. I was amazed at how simple it is. Excellent engineering I think.

My vote... taking apart your black out is fairly easy if you have the patience.

I agree. I take my boa apart all the time to do maintainence and cleaning. in the last month I've taken it apart about 5 times while polishing the black blade to an awesome silver. the Speed safe rocks it's a simple design with awesome results thanks Ken Onion
