As promised, I went outside today, and I took my new EsKabar and my camera with me, and I made a few pictures I'd like to share with you guys.

I also got a Gatco sharpening system today and tested it out by trying to put a decent edge on my EsKabar. I found a nice place to sit while I was working with the hones:

And here's my Gatco system

The knife with the blade coating still in mint condition and with a shiny new edge, as well as a handle wrap in hi-vis orange:

Esky trying to eat a tree.

Since the area used to be a training ground (thank you, moose :D) for the US Army and they were probably doing some stuff with kot things, this stone seems to have somehow melted into a glass-like substance. Pretty cool, huh?

Excalibur poser pic. This could actually be used for a commercial or something :D Feel free to do so, Ethan.

Excalibur V2.0 - the EsKabar had absolutely no difficulties to chop through this dead tree.

Couldn't take a picture of this one finished because two women on horses came riding by and told me to piss off because they thought I would light the whole place on fire. Yeah, of course.

The rest of the day was spent trying to get some paint stripper, I finally got some and stripped the blade because the coating was already starting to wear. But no pics yet, artificial lighting sucks for taking photos and it's night here in Germany at the moment. So, i'm gonna update tomorrow.

I was waiting for these from you! That is an awesome wrap you put on there! I should be getting an Eskabar soon from the February fork contest. I had planned on getting micarta, but you make a compelling case for a wrap.

Can't wait to see more pics from you! Very nice indeed.

Finally got the opportunity to take a pic of how the blade looks at the moment. I stripped the coating off the blade using some vicious industrial grade paint stripper. Took about 2-3 minutes until all paint had bubbled up and fallen off the blade. Crazy stuff. I cleaned the blade with a brass brush and then sanded it down, starting with 320 grit and moving all the way up to 1200 grit sandpaper. Then I soaked an old rag in white vinegar, wrapped the blade into the rag and let it sit for a few minutes.

Oh, and a little bonus picture:

"Excuse me, good Sir, I believe you forgot some of your razor-wire!" Nasty stuff. The worst thing is that it's quite old, getting rusty and is therefor difficult to see, you really have to pay attention to where you're going.

hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend

Nice strip job.

Did you remove the razor wire yourself? Sounds like a nasty mess that could really ruin someones day... or even those riders you mentioned earlier.

No, I didn't. I only had thin working gloves with me, and the wire was too thick for the wire cutters of my Victorinox SwissTool, so I just left it there.

the bk14 is a very nice knife, Ive edc it for about a week now works great in my back right pocket behind my wallet.
