Hi -

I just purchased this 119 off the exchange so I don't have it in hand yet, but looking at the pictures, it looks as though the butt of the knife has a few owies, from being dropped I assume. This is the sellers pic.

Is it doable to polish/buff these out? Keeping in mind my fanciest tool is a dremel combined with no personal skill set. Lol.

Thanks! Joe

I would send it in to Buck for reconditioning.

Ah, duh. I didn't even think of that. Good call. I just need to make sure it isn't replaced, just a tune up. I'll see what it costs. I'll call them on Monday. Thanks!!

Those will easily come out using sand paper of around 200 grit. Then keep moving up in grit until it looks how you want it. DM

Yeah, I'll take a look at it overall when it gets here to see if it could use a spa treatment. But since it's pretty much a user knife I may just let it go as giving it some personality. Depends.

I've not had one of these models, but wanted one for awhile. One of Bucks iconic knives I think. And I like that it's an older one. Dunno why they'd of used 425M steel though. Don't know anything about that particular blade steel.

From the sellers listing on it -

"When I first bought this knife it had a odd dot on each side of the stamp. I have looked over and over in different lighting trying to find those dots but they are not there. According to the guys in the Buck sub-forum this knife is from 1981 with 425M steel. Comes with swivel sheath."

I remember that one. I commented on that topic. 425M steel is good stuff. You'll enjoy using it. DM

This is what you will have to do BUT**
Use a red metal refinishing pad and then 2000 Grit Wet/Dry paper, which is also called automotive sandpaper. Then hit it with some Flitz metal polish. It will come out mirror polish, exactly how you want it. -Zemapeli.
You can find a red metal finishing pad at your local hardware store and 2000Grit paper at most large hardware stores like lowes, menards, etc...
You will probably have to order flitz but might find it at a dunhams or sporting goods store of some kind. Most gun specialties stores that carry gun oil will sell it as well. $10 a tube and polishes up any dings in metal, even silver, gold and brass.. Be careful what you polish though, it may be plated.

Some grocery stores sell Flitz located with the rest of the metal polishes.
