Hi all... I've got some newbie questions,
I'm in need of some cash, so soon I'm goign to be selling off some of my knives, one a high dollar custom... And I've never sold anything worth this much before... so, I've got a couple questions...

I usually take payment for knives I sell, via Postal Money order, since I'm not set up for pay pal, and dont like to mess with personal checks...
However, I believe the P.O. has a limit on the amount which one can get a money order for... is this true? Whats the limit?

And, the real question, what would the best way to take payment for a $1400 custom knife be?

I'm a total newbie in this area, and need some help. :)
Thanks.

[Edited to correct a numerical typo... altho I dont think it changes anything]

Make sure who you deal with...........Then you have no problems.IMHO

There is a limit on Postal Money orders and also money orders from the bank. I think it is $300.00 or $500.00. So, you could ask for multiple instruments that total $1,300.00

For a transction of $1,300.00 a Cashier's Cheque would work- Or you could ask for a wire transfer directly into your bank- this will cost someone around $20.00- you or the buyer. This is the safest way.

The limit for USPS money orders is $700.00. I always divide the total in two and send two money orders. In this case I would send two money orders for $650.00 each. Simple as that.

If you do a wire transfer, give the buyer your banking information over the phone. Do not send this information in an email.

When I buy knives, I don't like to bother having to get a money order. There is usually no burning rush for me to get the knife, so I usually ask the seller to take a personal check and not to ship the knife till the check clears, so there is no risk for him.
