How do I strip the finish off a KaBar? I want to give it a Patina and experiment with different methods. The KaBar is the only carbon steel blade I own that I don't care about but it's covered with their grey coating. I've tried sanding but it's taking for ever. I guess they put a good coating on their knives.

I've taken the coating off 2 of my kabars. The one with the black coating and the other with the grey bead blasted finish. I use Home Depot's chemical stripper. It takes an hour at a time. Simply apply with a paint brush. Let stand 1 hr. Then use a rag and wipe off. Repeat this every hr 4 times. And presto! All gone. I';m gonna do this to my Chris Reeve Shadow IV knife. I hate black coatings!;)

I use brush cleaner , Put her in a small pan , cover with brush cleaner , let her sit for a hour or so.Then take a green scrubby to her .protect your eyes .Put something small under the blade so it works both sides at the same time. Might try a piece of plastic to scrape the coating off while not scratching the blade. :D
