Just placed an order. I have 4 days of free time coming up, so...time to make a folder. I cant believe the amount of materials involved...Liners, pivots, detent balls, thumbstuds, screws, taps, stop bars, washers....

Should be interesting! Ive done many kits and read all the tutorials out there, and am pretty confident I can pull it off. How do folder makers make a good profit with all the involved components? Bulk purchasing? Seems the materials cost for a low-end custom folder is 10X the materials cost for a low-end fixed blade, which only requires steel, wood, and pins...

I have always wanted to make folders....seems they would reach out to more people since few carry a fixed blade with them every day.

Ill be sure to get some work in progress pics up as i swear and get frustrated during the process!

Good luck to you, I need alot more practice with all aspects before going to folders, but I agree with your thoughts totally. Most people prefer folders for carry so the potential market is bigger. I think most people cover the extra costs by charging a whole lot more. I am constantly amazed at what people ask, and seemingly receive, for a nice folder. I realize that it is a lot more difficult to produce, but i think most people wouldn't realize that and think that several hundred dollars was too much for a nice folder.
Again, good luck, and keep us posted on your progress

Peter Atwood as one of the best folder making videos I have seen you may want to look into it some very good info in it
