Tale of two pocket power pliers

In 1997 my sister in law got me a pocket power pliers for christmas. I immediately fell in lover with it. It was the perfect size to fit in my poacket for when I need to take it up the the elderly neighbors to fix something. I usually kept it is the change drawer of our van where it was always handy. About 18 months ago my wife took the van to the dealers, and when she picked it up the tool was gone. :( Of course the dealer said it wasn't their fault and said someone must have taken some other time or we had misplaced it (we no longer use the dealer as we also found that they hadn't done some of the work we had paid for :grumpy: ).

Anyway, this chistmas I opened a new pocket powerplier that my wife had gotten to replace the stolen one. It has already made it back into my pocket (but NOT into the van ;). I had forgotten how nice it is compared with my Gerber and Leatherman Super Tool. Just the right size and wieght to pocket, but still substantial enough to handle just about anything arround to house that doesn't require getting out the tool chest. Now all I need to do is replace the awl with either a 1/4" socket drive or medium screw driver if I can figure out which I will use more.

With the discontinuations, I am glade that the guys at SOG didn't do away with this excellent design.

Happy news year to all!

I carry a Deluxe Pocket PowerPlier in the SOG (horizontal) sheath as one of my (4) EDCs.

I'd really like to see SOG come out with a Deluxe Pocket PowerLOCK...THAT would be really be an excellent multitool.

A couple months back, after Dann "strongly encourged" me to have Spencer consider this Pocket PowerLock idea, Spencer and I talked about this ... yet again.

It is not a project that we are going to be considering at this time.

Yes, we are "listening." :)

Small (less than or equal to 4" so as to easily be an EDC for pocket), lots of interchangeable tools and locking. Sounds perfect. I know I'd buy one in a heartbeat.:)

Hopefully SOG will one day have time to consider it again.
In the meantime, I'm having real problems deciding between the Powerlock and the Deluxe Pocket.

On one hand the DPP doesn't seem to be that much smaller to lose locking, but then the big Powerlock seems a bit much to carry in my pocket all the time. I don't wear belts much, let alone belt knife-holsters.

Of course the answer is get both. My view is that the DPP is probably a better choice is you are really going to carry it in your pocket. For me the weight is more the issue than the size.

By the way, SOG has seconds of both listed on thier web site if this help with my first suggestion.:D
