Does it seem to anybody else that the tali whacker offer seemed to generate more interest than the air rescue one? Do you think that it is because we had more time to drool, or do people not like serrations? Maybe, we are just all crazy about funny names? Maybe interest was the same and I am just not seeing it. Pesonally I am excited about both. Weigh in with your opionons. This is what happens on a slow forum day:p

Speaking as one who didn't get either... on purpose... this is my assessment.

I am not a collector per se. The knives I buy I intend to use and I like them sterile. The Tali-Whacker, while utilitarian in design, is unique enough that I would have felt bad using it and if I can't use it then I have difficulty justifying the expense.

The ARK (nifty acronym  ) interests me but I am very selective about serrations. I understand the purpose behind the serrations on the ARK and feel that they work well for their intended purpose but, for the most part, that application falls outside my use range. Without the serrations however, I'd have jumped on it.

Additionally, at the moment, I am conseving funds for another ergo (possibly a variant) before they are gone and for a couple of protos designs for work. So, that said, if Jerry is forth coming with another desert ergo overrun soon... I may well be in the market ;)

That's what I'm looking for! Well though out reasons! Much better than my pointless ramblings! Thanks SpearHead! Anyone else?

I made a move on the Tali-Whacker, because I have been hearing about that knife for a while, (not that knife specficly but the "Enduring Freedom" knives made by Busse for the War effort.) Being from NY I wanted this knife, maybe a little more than some other model, because I knew that knife in someone else's hands was extracting vengence for us in NY.

The ARK while nice, I felt was a little smaller than the average Busse in my collection. I happen to prefer the 7-9in blades. The ARK just didn't make me crave it, or didn't tickle my addiction sensor. Which is nice because my credit card is hurting:D

I also purposely chose to neither get the Tali-Whacker nor the AIr Rescue.

Even though some of my Busse knives are doubtless quite collectible, I buy them to use. My SRKW Battle Rat seemed similar enough--and better suited to my (varied outdoor use) needs than the Tali-Whacker. My Satin Jack (recurved variant, with spine serrations), my (incoming) INFI Bandicoot, and my (incoming) Pepper Shaker cover my small knife needs better the Air Rescue looks like it would.

If I was to (blindly) hypothesize about why the Tali Whacker generated more interest than the Air Rescue:

1) The sale of the Air Rescue was only announced a couple hours in advance; the sale of the Tali Whacker was announced a couple days in advance; thus, more people were aware of the sale of the Tali Whacker.

2) While the Air Rescue is a rarer blade, it's perhaps a less rare kind of blade. Lots of rare small Busse knives have been sold, but no other SR101 steel Busse knives have been sold. This might have been more compelling for collectors.

3) Jerry indicated that there might be more Air Rescues available in the future, but indicated that this was it, forever, with the Tali Whackers.

4) Lots of folks think big tanto knives are cool.

5) Some folks don't like serrations.

Thanks guys. I was just trying to pass a little time, and I think that it is fun to think about things like this. If I get a Air Rescue(Hopefully) I cut my order back to one in an effort to share. Wish I could say the same on the tali-whackers, but I can't:o :p :D

I personally have been waiting a long time to see the ARK, but was at work, and by the time I saw the offer, it was long gone. That being said, now that I've seen it, I don't think I would've bought it. I love the overall design, but the serrations have got to go.

I did get in on the Tali-Whacker, although I don't think I'll be using it. I may try to trade it for a INFI 'coot. I just can't justify something as big as the TW since I like to carry all my knives.

I've been waiting for some more desert overruns, though:)

I passed on the Tali-wacker, because it was very similar (IMO) to the Camp Tramp from a strictly useage point of view. If I paid that much for it, being as rare as it is, I'd probably not use it...:grumpy:
I tried for an Air Rescue because I think it may be a knife I can use. I remember cutting lengths of rope for knot tying with Scouts on a Sunday afternoon of a camping trip... (well used knives :D )serrations were definitely the order of the day. It may be a bit small for serrations, but we'll see. Being a "regular" production knife, even if not generally available, it could be replaced if damaged or broken..., just like the "mailbox" knife... LOL!!!

I've wanted a tali-Whacker since I first knew of it but could never pry one from Jerry despite my pleadings. Now you guys got me second guessing on my plan of a use and a keeper. My beloved Basic #7 and a Camp Tramp certainly cover the task profile of the Tali-Whacker but damn I owuld like to use of them nonetheless.

Now I'm all confused.  ;)

I wanted both the Tali-whacker and the ARK, but I splurged too much already. Got a Desert Mofo, 2 Inficoots, the Desert SK, in the last month so I gotta cool down a bit. :D

I got in on the Tali-Whacker offer and purchased one primarily for one reason. I badly want an Anorexic Badger, and if I don't make the cut on that one, I hope the relative scarcity of the TW will be seductive trade bait.

All that being said, it is very possible that when I receive the TW it will take up permanent residence with me, just like all of the other Busses I have purchased so far. I can easily see the TW as a user, perhaps as my wife's car knife.

As for the ARK, I am not wild about serrations on the primary edge.

I passed on the TW as it didn't "grab" me as much as some of the other Busse offerings. Not that I don't think it's a cool knife, it really is, but just not quite for me.

The ARK is one that I'm really bummed I missed. :(

I have my own weird size/usability/value thing that I'm much more likely to buy a knife that I'll use rather than a drawer queen (oink, oink :p ). In that regard, I get alot more use out of a smaller knife than a larger one. I have an early INFI SH that I beat up maybe half-dozen times a year. I reach for my BAD at least once a week for some reason or other.

I'm hoping that the new line keeps smaller nuclear-tough utility knives in mind. I'm looking forward to seeing the lineup.
