Talibong

Looks like it might be a WW2 bringback. Looks to be in great shape too! Where'd you get it?

My father has been a collector for many years, mostly US and German military. He passed away this year, so I'm trying to identify what he had.

I have no idea where he got it. He's probably had it for quite some time.

Any idea what it might bring at auction?

Traditional Filipino Weapons (http://traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Sandata.html) and Valiant Co. (http://www.valiantco.com/) both make authentic talibongs and other blades from the Philippines and the Indonesian Archipelago. Good basis for comparison.

I'm sure they make superb weapons and tools. However, there is a lot of "creative license" or enhancements done on their stuff, especially Trad. Filipino Weapons.

To the OP, might I suggest this site for more info. It tries to be strictly academic and historical in its approach (it recently used Filipino/Tagalog in its text, but the previous entries were in English) -

Condolences on your loss. I lost my dad this year also. Now to the knife. It looks to be a talibong to me, and in exceptional condition. I wouldn't sell it, but I have a definite weakness for such things.

I agree with CRR. I bought someone's dad's Tausug barong a few weeks ago and even though I paid $350 for it, I feel like his son should have held onto it. If it was my dad's, I would.
