Talk about an odd "Bird"

Picked up a new in the box 321 "Bird" yesterday at an auction. My first one and if it hadn't been for the price ($25) I might not have brought it home cause it sure is an odd looking and specifically designed model. As I've studied it I can see how the muskrat pattern blade would work quite nicely for slicing the breast meat off quail, dove, etc, as well as more general use on other small game The guthook is pretty much self explanatory and to my eye at least, a strictly single task device.

Anyone else got one of these and if so what are you thoughts? Did Buck ever offer this pattern with any embellishments or other scale options? TIA.

Bad,

There is a history on the 321 on the BCCI website....with photos. I think I put a copy on the forum also quite a while back.

If this knife comes with embellishments, other than custom applied scales, I have not seen one. I have a stag scale but it was done in the old Buck custom shop long ago. I do have one someone took the gut hook out of and made it into a thin 'slide in the sock sticker' knife.....

Its highly unlikely you would ever find a 321 with a broken gut hook, if you wanted one of these you will just have to get a 321 and take out the hook and spring.

Regular 321 and the 'shiv' version. Thats what I call it as I can think of no other purpose.........

Here is a stag 321 that was done in the old Buck Custom shop, next to a 315. Note no K,B and H shield and scale rivets.
