Talk about screwing around-rated-G

In the 60s that the marines played around with that concept. There was a vehicle with screw drive that could go through water, swamp, mud, or snow. Didn't do well on dry land, though. Think I read about it at the time in Popular Mechanics. Found a pic:

I was going to say that such a system would work well on water if the vehicle was light enough, but it wouldn't work on dry land. The interesting part is that it took at least another 15 years before tanks were able to have the treads run in opposite directions so that you could spin like that.
 
That was sure a heck of a proof video for those days! I wonder why it didn't catch on- or did it? If I lived in the snow I might have to have a go at that- wonder what it could do with modern materials and power?

Very cool. I watched the entire thing.

I would also like to see what one built today would look like. I bet a person could do a lot with a concept like that.
