I work in a gov't facility, and have always had all my knife trades and purchases sent to me here at work, to avoid the eyes of my lovely wife. I didn't even think about it, but with the anthrax scare and everything (they have confirmed cases of Anthrax in my city!) they are now scanning all incoming packages in an X-ray machine.

I recently had a trade deal for a Bud Nealy fixed blade, and a Spyderco Civilian, and they were to be shipped here last week. I just got a call from Security, and they were wondering what the heck I was receiving "Cutting Blades" at work for. She even said, "Umm, don't you think that was stupid?" Duhh! I will now have to do all my "personal" knife business from my home address. I mean, what was I thinking!

Oh, well... No more secrets from the wife. I just hope that the knife I am having replaced by Boker, gets through okay. I will probably have another "Shame on you!" call.

That's actually one of the first things that occurred to me after 9/11, that trades & purchases could no longer fly under the radar(work), and would need to come in by a secured point of entry (home).

This point was driven home when, about a week after 9/11, a coworker had a box delivered to his desk - opened. It contained his new (personal) cable modem that he did not want left outside his front door at home. I guess if it comes to your place of work, they have the right to open it, since you should not be using their mail to receive non-work related mail.
