Hey guys. I have wanted a Hinderer for some time now. Who hasn't?

Anyway, I recently offered my Sebenza 25 in trade. Got a few offers, but no Hinderer.

I want to know if you think the 25 and an 810 Contego is a reasonable offer. I'm struggling because I absolutely love my Contego, but a Hinderer is really calling my name.

The other option is to just save up and have my daughter buy one for me. She's in the Air Force. Is that frowned upon? I'd think it would be preferable to buying from someone that flips them for $$?

Thanks for any thoughts, and I don't mean for this to sound like an advertisement. I'll post a trade thread for that. ;)

Just read the direct sales sticky and it gives an answer. Abuses of the direct sales policy are frowned upon.

As for the trade, I'd let go of many things to get another Hinderer. So, to get a first...yep, I'd really put some thought into the deal you mentioned. If its right for you I'm sure you'll do it and not regret it.

The father of an Air Force woman deserves a Hinderer. I don't think this situation should be considered abuse.

Thanks guys. Obviously I don't need a lot of arm twisting, I think I'll post a thread tonight. I just don't want to make an offer that is unreasonable, but I think the two knives are a good trade.

Wish me luck!

A couple of questions that I didn't see answered in the stickies...

Anyone know what the thickness behind the edge is on a typical xm-18? Would you compare the stock geometry to a Strider SnG? Really didn't like my 3/4 CC, but I could have reprofiled it.

Also, when securing a used Hinderer, is there a box, or any literature, cert. of authenticity, or anything else that I should be requesting?

Some people balked when I traded the Strider and explained that it came with nothing more than a plastic bag. I get it, but not all knives come with other stuff.

I read the warranty. Are they pretty ridged about aftermarket ano, and things like Pete Grey products? Even Strider and CRK let some of that slide so thought I'd ask about Hinderers policy.

I don't know if we can talk dollars here or not; gets confusing. But when I add up your two folders, I think you are ballpark, but might need to chip in another twenty-five. Hinderer prices on the Exchange are dropping though, thankfully.
You must be a pretty darned good father; tell her I'm grateful for her Service to our country.

Thanks brother, I will. She's an amazing person and is set to be an air traffic controler. Couldn't be more proud!

I also appreciate and am grateful for your daughter's service!

The blades sharpen up nicely and cut; so while a bit thick, they do what knives do.

Hinderer XMs come in a non-descript white box filled with packaging peanuts and the knife is in a plastic zip-locked Baggie.

If anyone other than the Ranch does any work on your XM or if its modified then the warranty is voided. This includes third-party anodizing. Hinderer will anodize some knives by request for a fee if they have time.

Another question that I didn't see addressed in the stickies...

On a gen 3, 3" xm-18 non-flipper, which steels were available? And if more than one, how can you determine which is used on a particular knife since there are no markings on the blade?

:)

Unmarked is DuraTech 20CV. Other steels are marked on the blade. CTS-XHP and more recently S-35VN.

I would certainly think a lot less of Hinderer if they deemed an air force daughter buying her father one of their knives "abuse."

Back on topic, I would say no need for the trade. If you have a Contego you already love, you don't need another.

The 25 is nice but if your after a Hinderer I wouldn't let anything side track you

Very interesting viewpoint. If I'm honest with myself, I do have knives that I've gotten rid of in order to try another and regretted it. I can see that possibly happening here, but I'm gonna try this for a little longer. The offer I've received so far is for a 3rd gen 3" non-flipper which isn't really what I had in mind. I'm fairly certain that if I DO trade for it I'll end up putting it up for what I really wanted, a 3.5 flipper of some variety.

Thanks gents for your further help. I'll have to figure out what he meant by 3rd generation if there isn't one. I have requested pics, I'll post them here when he replies.
