I have owned/used regulars, classics & 21's in both small & large sizes.
Currently EDCing a large plain jane regular but have been thinking about adding a Zaan to the rotation.
I have read & watched alot of reviews on this knife and have come to the conclusion that it is time to possibly stick one in the pocket.

So my simple question is...
To those with serious carry/use time with this folder, what do you most like about it?

I have to add that it is going to take a very impressive folder to bump the regular out of pocket.

Thanks and stay sharp.

Very stout feel to it. On the bad side, the ergos arent as good as the Sebbies...

I really like my Zann. The ONLY complaint I have are the handles. i think the criss cross design is kind of.....dumb. They really should offer it in a plain, another pattern or some sort of inlay.

I have a Lg regular Sebbie and a regular Unmunzaan as a matter of fact, i liked the regular Umnum's criss cross pattern so much I picked up a Startac Umnum with even more texture. I love the ergos and the pattern, it won't slip out of your hand with the criss cross pattern and much less with the Startac pattern. Even wet or sweaty it just doesn't seem to slip. The Blade on the Regular Umnum is just a work of art in my opinion.... I love the thumb indentation on the spine just past the jimping but what looks really cool is that swedge. Can't go wrong with one imho

Best of luck!

I have an Umnumzaan in my pocket right now, although I have large Regular Sebenzas. I love the texture of the handle and find the ergonomics of the handles equally good. The balance of the knife is somehow different (sort of more blade heavy) which I like. What I really like more though is the ceramic ball lock interface. It is super-smooth and opening and closing this knife will cause almost no noticeable wear. I love my Sebenzas (maybe even more) but when I really expect to use it, I grab the Umnumzaan

I could easily live with out the handle texturing too. It makes so little difference it may as well not be there, IMO. I would much prefer it to be just plain Ti. Other than that the knife is spot on, I would say that the ergos are actually "better" than the Regular Sebenza. I realise that is a bold statement but the reduced depth of the handle on the Umnumzaan makes for a more nimble knife even though they are quite similar. The difference is a small one but having spent a few years with both knives I feel there really is a difference there, which knife one prefers is up to the individual of course.

To make a choice between the Regular and the Umnumzaan is a very though one, I actually carry both knives regularly with the Umnumzaan just taking the lead in pocket time.

The leader of the rebel against machines once said "Unfortunately, no one can be told what the beauty of Zaan is. You have to see it for yourself."

Or something like that.

I wasn't sure until I had one (Star-Tac) myself. When I handled it, I was like "Whoa!"

I absolutely love the handle texturing...I wish Reeve would go further down with it actually. The knife is solid..WELL built...just get it man..then if you don't like it, pm me, I'll buy it from you.

Thanks for all of the responses.
It sounds like a winner.
Last two questions.
How was your factory edge in terms of sharpness along the entire length?
What is your opinion on the lockbar overtravel disc (now with CR logo)?

Thanks guys.

The knife was shave sharp the entire length of the blade and with an even bevel out the box, if the knife is a user then that doesn't matter much as you will be sharpening it in no time any way. I don't much like the disk and would have prefered to see a hidden lock stop of some sort used. I prefer the older Umnumzaans and all the pieces I have are from 09.

I have a new Umnumzaan with lock bar overtravel stop with logo on it and I like it. It doesn't interfere with normal usage, looks nice and I think it will be safer in future to buy used Umnumzaans with the disk than without because you'll know that there was no fiddling with the lock tension. Anyway if CRK needs this feature to prevent idiots who have modified the lock tension to post Youtube clips with lock failure and to prevent to many returns, I fully support this decision.

It was sharp out of the box. I can not speak to the lockbar disk as I have a older one with out. It has been in my pocket for about a year. I am not a collector just a user. I have small hobby farm so it gets used for all the thing it should not and never complains. It sharpens up on my Wicked edge ever so nice. I can not say how much I respect this knife, and know that some one special will get it when I am gone.

Let these pictures speak for themselves. You think I've used this umnumzaan?

GET ONE!!

Thanks everyone for the input but i have decided to stick with my plain large regular.
This folder is by far the nicest tool that i have ever had the pleasure of carrying/using.
Call me crazy if you wish but (IMO) there is no other that compares.
It's like a well worn pair of jeans that just works and asks for more.
I will cherish it to no end....

I like the large pivot screw and pin on the Zaan. It's heavy duty.

Good for you. Nothing like carrying the knife you love. I am always trying to hide those great jeans (from my wife, something about holes, I don't understand) but she never goes after my well worn Znna :) Have a great life with your large reg. you really can not go wrong with a CR Knife.

My first CRK (9/10) was my StarTac 'zaan. It was to commemorate a milestone, which it did - clearly my finest knife. Even after adding a plain small Sebbie last summer, the 'zaan gets a lot of carry. It's heftier - .140" vs the Sebbies' .125". Mine has no disc - and is S30V. It fits my medium+-sized hand as perfectly as possible - without the clip and with the clip insert installed. I carry it in a CRK leather pouch now, trying to preserve it's finish. I do use it, despite the "You just carry that expensive knife in your pocket?" remarks. Well, yeah... it is a 'pocket knife'! It deploys straightforwardly - and retracts with relative ease one-handed, too. Gotta admit, the regular production 'zaan's handle does nothing for me!

I like the ergos of the Zaan way better than the sebenza. The sebenza has a sharp transition at the butt of the handle that can cause a hot spot when used for very long.
