Just got a Microtech Halo V. Now on to a fixed blade. Perfect knife for showing off and using. Should I get it?

Up here in Alaska, when you go out into the toolie-boons, you always take your pack - with whatever you might need if you get caught out longer than you anticipate. I've had a Trailmaster riding in my pack for over 20 years. These are fantastic knives, my favorite Cold Steel. Take a look at the thickness of the spine. I'm sure there is someone on the planet that could break one, but you would have to really work at it. The kraton handle is a real plus in the cold and absorbs the shock if you are cutting firewood or making a shelter. I haven't had any problems with rust, but I take care of my gear (a simple wipe down, Frog-Lube or whatever protectant when I get home). Can't say enough good about these knives.

I'm a big fan of the Trail Master in O1 tool steel. I have several of them and they all came with perfect edges that are razor sharp right out of the box. I beat the snot out of one for a few hours the other day and it only took some stropping to get the edge right back to razor sharp. The Secure-X sheaths are fine but I still carry mine in an older leather sheath just because I prefer it. I've seen stories of O1 rusting bad but I wipe mine down quickly with a silicone rag after use and have no rust the past few years. I don't think there is a better $120 knife/sheath combo out there considering its fast in hand and 5/16" thick.

I'd say get one, then spend a few bucks and get it ceracoated

I have it in SK5. Great knife. Definitely get it. They're in O-1 now, the SK5 is no longer available. Agree with ursamajor, put a coating on or force a patina. It's a working knife.

The Trail Master is one of Cold Steel's flagship knives and has been in production for close to 30 years now! If that isn't enough incentive I don't know what is.

I have the SK5 version and it is my Z-Nation knife. "IF" O1 is generally accepted as an upgrade, GO FOR IT! They are pretty enough to be wall hangers and built strong enough to.actually use. I rest my case.

I really want one of the O1 TM's but the handle just totally turns me off. If there was a way to rehandle one with Micarta say, I would be tempted all the more.

I have a trailmaster in 0-1 I've used for several years now. It has a nice patina on it, highly recommend getting one.
