Talk me into (or out of) a Military

I've been thinking about picking up a Military, mainly because I don't have one, and they seem to get great reviews. My only real reservation is the tip-down only pocket clip. Almost all my knives are set up for tip-up carry, and it's just what I'm used to. If it wasn't for that, I would have bought one by now. What are your feelings on the pocket clip? Is it a deal breaker for some people? Any other pros or cons for this model I should consider? Thanks in advance

I personally like the way it sticks out of the pocket for easy grabbing. Tip down works very well for me on the Military (and Para, for that matter).

It's big for EDC, but relatively lightweight for it's size, with great ergos, and a flat ground blade that slices like a demon. Certainly one of Spderco's all-time classics. Is there better value elsewhere for $130?

If it's something you want....you won't be disappointed. Just be forewarned, it doesn't "disappear" in some types of pants pockets....nor is it discreet when the blade is out in a crowd of "mixed" company. Waistband carry and common sense can go a long way in mitigating any drawbacks, however.

Seems like the PM2 is a better choice for most people for EDC, at least depending on circumstances. I have a new one that I've been lightly experimenting with. I have average or larger hands and it is plenty big for my hands. I've thought about the Mil for my EDC, and I could probably pull it off if I wanted to. I've carried 4" blades in the past but with slightly smaller handles. Something slightly smaller does work out better for me. With the spydie hole in the blade, Spyderco blades look larger than some others, and the Mil and PM2 have relatively large handles for the blade size.

It seems to me that if you need or want a larger blade, and you aren't around people that would be scared of it, then go for it.

Thanks guys. I'm still thinking hard on the Millie, the only other one I'm considering at the moment is a plain-edge Police. I really like my PM2's, and I kinda doubt that I'll like the Military any better, but I just feel like I need one.

I held back buying a military because of it's big clip, only one way tip down carry, and clip carry is high. However, the positive sides outweighed the negative and i ended up buying one. The military is huge, yet slim and light for it's size. The military is an excellent ''big'' knife for edc. The police is great, but i prefer liner lock and the easy to maintain construction of the military.

If you are hesitant on spending the money for the Millie, the Manix XL may satify your need for a big knife. Big S30v blade for less than $100:not bad. Very nice knife. I was afraid it might be too much like the Resilence. I was wrong.
The PM2 is a manditory part of any decent knife collection. I put off getting the Millie because I keep telling myself my PM2 is a more user friendly version of the Millie. I'm sure I will break down and buy a Millie within a year or so.

Well I went ahead and placed my order for the Millie. I figure it will be something different, and will help round out my collection of Spydie's a bit. Just went with the standard black G10 / satin plain edge blade. I do have a serrated Police on the way as well. I may pick up the plain edge version later on down the road, who knows.
