I've been wanting a Spyderco Vallotton for some time now, and with my recent tax return, I'm planning on buying one, but I'm rather hesitant about it because I don't see much ownership or talk about here on BF. I watched the video reviews on-line and read the very few reviews here on BF's, and I like what I see.

Beautiful polished handle, stain blade, spanto style tip, super thick S30v blade, bronze 4 way pocket clip that will gain good character wear. I'm a huge ZT and Becker fan so I'm familiar carrying a heavy folder or a heavy blade in general (EDC usually a 303, 500, 551 or 200 (with a 561 on preorder), and packing a BK9, BK11 and 121 when I camp.)

So what are your thoughts on the Spyderco Vallotton?

Its much bigger than I thought it would be. It takes up a lot of pocket space. I removed the pocket clip and added a lanyard to make it easier to carry. Im glad I bought it but I don't carry it much.

My Adamas seems to take up much less pocket space than the Vallotton.

It is a really nice knife, tho.

I'm not a big Spyderco person, but I absolutely fell for the Vallotton, and was not disappointed when it came. It has an almost stilleto feel to it, and though you have the Spydie hump it does not, in my opinion, detract from it. The blade is thick at 4mm, and is rather slim from bottom to top. The blade grind on the tip of the knife is a convex grind, while the rest of the blade is a regular grind. I've used my Sharpmaker to sharpen the entire length of the blade and am slowly turning the convex to a regular grind, and it has not affected the razor sharpness of the blade. This knife just feels so right in my hand and I look forward to it's turn in the edc rotation. The weight of 6.2 ounces, coupled with that slim height makes this as solid a folding knife as about any I've held, including heavier knives.

Go for it as I don't think you will be at all disappointed!:)

The pivot looks kinda of dinky to me., but that seems to be the case of all spyderco knifes. I know I'm not supposed to pry or batton with a folder, but do you think the pivot will hold put to that kind of strain?

The actual pivot is thick walled, if I remember correctly, and it probably would hold up to some of that, but it certaintily wasn't made to do batoning! I would consider this knife to have a heavy duty build, but still a bit of a gentleman's knife as far as the looks. This is a good looking knife that can deliver. But I would stay away from batoning with a folder and save that for the fixed blades.

I got one and didn't like it. The handle is too thick for me.

I didn't like it, when I saw it on the pictures and found it more expensive to compare let say to Navaja. Both knives has the same steel, the same maker, both are custom collaborations. Even more Navaja has CF vs. G10. Plus "caraca". So it was no go since day one and until the day I was able to handle one. It was extremely good-looking and well made piece, but really heavy (I EDC original bolstered Persian, which is not feather-weight either) and bulky in the pocket. I read on the forums that grind is quite thick and I prefer thin grind knives for EDC. So my thoughts for this knife applicable for me: EDC absolutely no, showpiece - absolutely yes, if I will be able to find one at better price, which I am working on.
