Talk me out of a Skeletool CX

I need a new MT like a whole in the head and a new Skeletool CX like the plague. But still I want one. While I've been in this spot before and am pretty sure I know that the story ends with a brand new CX in my pocket, I was wondering if, perhaps, I could be disuaded.

Swisstool FTW (and i'm the so called proud owner of a CX)

Surface rust in the plier jaws, only good thing is the blade steel, even then you probably carry a dedicated knife with you.

It only comes in a combo edge. I hate combo edges with a passion. I have made quasi-peace with the combo edge. however, a high performace blade steel given a goofy hard to sharpen combo edge means that I know have the POTENTIAL for a hell of a knife, but it gets regulated to sawing duty.

I carry it every day because it is light, but for the money a nice full sized tool has a ton more utility. Also, I feel naked with just a combo edge. I feel the need to carry a full sized folder "just in case".

I picked one up recently and wasn't all that impressed. If you are looking for something on the small side I would go with one of Juice models.

I disagree with the naysayers. I've carried one for months and used it pretty hard. No rust - I'm around saltwater a lot too and it's stronger than you think. The only fault to me is the lack of scissors but it is designed to be minimalist. If you don't need a heavy duty tool it's a good choice.

Do you do anything different aside from the normal Oil, and not storing in a sheath to prevent rust? please advise, as this is one of the things keeping my CX in the drawer and not on me.

Ozy, I haven't had any rusting issues with mine. I haven't done anything to mine short of wiping it off when it gets wet. I work in a heavily chlorinated environment so anything that is going to rust, rusts pretty fast and pretty hard.

Maybe you got a bum set of pliers? I have had rust spots/pitting issues with my Fuse, but that set in a tool box and didn't get the wipe down that the CX has gotten.

The CX is a nice tool if you are a multi-tool fanatic like many of us. Does it have its place in a collection? Sure! It is way more than just "functional" and certainly more than a novelty. Does it completely reinvent the multi-tool? Not really. I pack mine because it has usable pliers (more so than a standard SAK model that comes with them), it has a pocket clip, and it has a bottle opener.

So get the regular Skeletool which has a plain edge. Since I got the CX, I carry it every day. I like having the pliers and screwdrivers, and the blade is OK for small stuff.

I have a Juice XE6 and a Swisstool Spirit, both great, they have their place, but I don't need a big toolset on a daily basis anymore.

The only thing different that I do is rinse the Skeletool in fresh water after it's been around salt water or a lot of sweat. Then I spray a quick shot of WD40 on it. I haven't had any problems.
