Like a lot of folks on here, I need another knife like I need a new hole in my head, but that's hardly the point. I've been looking at the Johnson Adventure Potbellys since they came out and there is just something about this blade that really appeals to me. I have plenty of choppers, but this thing looks so comfy. I know that there have been a few threads on these, so I'm just looking for user experience updates. The good, the bad, the ugly; let me have it. Pics are always welcomed and as always, thanks in advance.

The knife in question: https://www.kabar.com/product/productDetail.do?productNumber=5600&mode=category&categoryId=1,2,7,8&categoryName=Hunting/Sporting

I think i read here somewhere that the knife in question is uncomfortable... but i can't find the post. i will keep looking.

A strange choice from my point of view.
First of all, of course the price. 134 dollars for a piece of 1095? That is just 1095 with pieces of some boring wood just slammed on for the handle...
The shape of the handle is very strange for the chopper. Can not believe it will be comfortable and you will not curse that strange protrusion in the middle of the handle... I understand that the handle without in would not provide reliable purchase for chopping, but putting it all on your index and middle fingers only does not look like a good idea for me. Why that kind of very unorthodox handle shape gets sort of popular lately is just beyond me...
The blade shape is a sort of parang... but it is too short and too light for parang... I am certainly not an expert to judge but it would always look like something mini to me...
The Chinese sheath is not shown. I hope it does not look ugly. Condura - yeah, fat chance!
I would not even consider that one. There is so much choice for camping knife for that kind of money!

its not a bad knife at all can be had for around 75 bucks. the sheath is decent with a huge pouch to put a psk in. the grip scales are a plastic with a rayskin feel to them and its actually pretty comfortable in the hand.

The street price is about $75. It's made in the USA, save the sheath. The sheath is cordura and accomodates an included "necker" style knife and it will also fit an altoids can survival kit. By the way, people are paying a lot more than $134 for that old, out-dated, 1095 stuff. ;) Thank you for your input. You make some interesting points. Anyone else?

Thanks Cricketdave. I was just adding some of those same facts. With exception to the comfort of the grip, that is. I have not had the opportuity to hold one yet.

its really pretty comfortable, chops good too with the way the angle of the grip and the weight of the blade. not a thing wrong with 1095 either its a good durable steel that takes a good edge and holds up well to hard use.

I've got the Potbelly and love it. The handle is comfortable for me (mid-large hand). I have a lanyard attached to secure the knife while holding the knife handle in the rear-most position while chopping.

It makes short work of of chopping and is very efficient for a 7 inch blade. See the following reviews:

That's a nice knife! Everyone should buy one!

Not everyone.

Only people who have "adventures." If you are just going plain old camping, not only shouldn't you buy it...you are not allowed to buy it.

A question....is it hollow sabre ground?

It is hollow ground if memory serves correctly.

That hollow grind really does bite into wood. I thought it may be too fragile but that is certainly not the case in my experience.

Well, I bought one of course. It should be here by next week. Thanks for all of the replies, folks. I really appreciate your input and your support of my addiction to edged implements.
