If you wouldn't mind? The good, the bad, and the ugly? Also would you please add pics?

You are a gold member, you CAN search. There are MANY threads on the subject.

The Good: Some people like em

The Bad: Some people don't like em

The ugly: Some people think they are ugly

That sums it up pretty good:P

I had one(GB) and didn't like it.
The Good: Stupid strong
The Bad: Heavy, big, pretty pricey, hated the clip, and the pivot.
The Ugly: I think most of the designs are pretty ugly.

I still have a strider BT. Its a very nice knife but honestly, its too much knife.

The good:

Love my stonewash drop point SMF! Fits right in with my Hinderer XM-18, Sebenza, ZT0301, as far as lock up and smoothness.
Probably my most carried knife lately.

The bad:

First time resharpening I had to do alot of work to get the tip sharp.

The Ugly:

Some don't care for the fit/finish of the knives, or the fit/finish of the owners of the company. They both suit me fine :)

the good: warranty is best in business, you can't break em'
the bad: pricey. you can't just buy one!
the ugly: not pretty, but I would be on a island alone and know I have a knife that will never ever let me down..

The Good - They are freaking awesome, built like tanks, great fit and finish and have the best warranty of ANY folder in the business.

The Bad - Other than they are a little pricey for some I can't think of anything.

The Ugly - Can't think of anything.

Thank you to those of you that gave thoughtful opinions. I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I have read a lot of posts about Striders, and since there is not a Strider forum the information is somewhat scattered across this site.

Is it just me or does the phrase "no sh*t Sherlock" ring a bell?

No.

Kind regards,

Jos

Why did you even bother? Nothing like wasting mental effort...Or wait could it be that you just can't type?

Wow, you're starting off with the wrong foot forward there. :thumbdn:

Me? Starting off? No offense Josh, but I have been around longer than you and posted on the general discussion board before.

Now if you and other nay sayers are finished trying to hijack my thread, I really just wanted to hear/read about Striders.

Starting off the thread.

And yes, you're sitting at a grand total of 0.18 posts a day.

You may have better luck here: http://usualsuspect.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=23

Maybe he just doesn't like to hear himself talk as much as some of you. Maybe he has a life. Maybe he has friends....

As far as Striders go:

The good- The knives. The Sng and Smf are realy great designs. Strider S30V is among the best I've used.
The bad- The price and availability
The ugly- you've been reading some of their posts

The guy should not have to join a different forum or use the search feature if he wants to hear what people think about a knife company. I dont think the OP has done anything wrong, he asked a question, and responded no more rudely than he was already responded to.

As to the topic at hand. I own a PT and it is a very good knife. It has only the slightest amount of play, but nothing that worries me. The fit and finish on my ZT 301 is a little better, but I still think striders are worth it. An SNG is next on my list from them.

Now that we know that the OP realizes that he can search, let's just get back to the topic. I think people are just building on a momentum of negativity and it doesn't seem necessary.

I personally like Strider production folders. I really dislike many of their production fixed blades. I like a lot of their custom stuff, but they're way out of my price range.

About the folders, some can have a somewhat annoying break in period. They just won't open as smoothly as I would prefer, especially for such a high priced knife. The grip on the SnG/SMF have a hump near the pommel that digs into my palm uncomfortably, but not horribly. The grip with the finger choil is very comfortable for me. Customer service and warranty seems to be outstanding. I plan on owning an SnG again at some point in the future, hopefully a custom one.

did it have blade play from the start, or did it develop it? it seems like if it came like that from the start, that'd be reason enough to send it back

I always go to YouTube for opinions, not sure if this helps or not, but here are a few reviewers that I always watch:

Being a HUGE CRK Sebenza fan, I compare other companies knives to my large sebenza. I have mixed thoughts on the strider knives. I first bought a smf. It was used, but had a near factory edge. Upon getting I spent over an hour sharpening it on the sharpmaker to the 40 degree setting ( 20 degrees each side ). The strider comes from the factory at 22.5 degrees. Since I dont have sharpeners at that angle and since I am no good with a stone, I spent the time and reprofiled it to 40 degrees. I think it could still use some work, buts its almost there and shaving sharp. The smf is built like a tank, lockup is like a bank vault. I got the green handle with the stone washed blade. This one is a keeper as I got a great deal on it and I just like the big massive folder this knife represents. The week I bought this, I kept my large sebenza in the safe. After a week, I compared it to the sebenza. There is no comparrison. The sebenza has been in pocket ever since, but I am still keeping the smf. I have since had 2 sng's. Both tanto. My first one, the same day, I got the smf and the sng knowing full well I would sell the one I disliked the most. I liked the sng, but the smf won hands down for me at least. As soon as I sold it, I missed it, so I bought another sng tanto. I have to mention that both sng's had a dissapointing factory edge as neither would shave hair. Upon touching them up on a sharpmaker, they were razor sharp. In the meantime, I have been wanting to try the umnumzaan. So reluctantly, I put the second sng up on the forsale forum as my wife wants a ceramic floor, so I was hoping to gather funds. I have sence saved enough for that, that I decided to put the sng on the trade forum and traded it for a umnumzaan. I really like the striders, smf and sng. But in all honesty, I think they are a bit overpriced. I can get a sebenza for less and I feel I am getting more of a knife. The smf will stay with me and I think it will be my last strider for awhile. I do think they are very tough knives, tougher than most, but my personal preference, I will stick to the sebenza. With all the knives I have handled, I would rank the strider #2 behind the sebenza. Still in very good company. Just my 2 cents !
