Sometimes I just need a watch that I really don't care too much about. I spend time in places where it is hot, humid and security can be a problem. That and my eyes are getting middle aged. Yes, I could wear a Rolex as a portable ransom but I'm now on my third Casio MW59-7B for this sort of wear.
Easy to read, cheap, no tears if I lose it.

I simply have a knack for destroying watches---I won't buy anymore Casio junkers because they'll only last a month or so with me.

I pretty much stay with Seiko and Citizen dive watches and get a couple years out of them.

Anything better would be a waste because I would eventually destroy it too.

I've been wearing a plain black plastic Timex expedition, the most basic one, since about 2001. It's taken a lickin and kept on tickin for 22.95. Thats all I want from a watch, just for it to tell me what time it is.

For budget watches, the Seiko 5 line are between $40 and $100 and have automatic movements with display backs and come in many styles. But some folks prefer the accuracy and convenience of quartz. The Citizen eco drives are great, since they are solar-powered--they are quartz but recharge themselves in light.

I don't really buy watches as much as I used to. Having to replace batteries for the quartz watches I own got to be too much of a hassle.

I'm currently down to one Seiko analog chronograph which needs the battery changed every 3 years or so. The other is a Casio beater, a $20 calculator watch when I need a calculator on my wrist. I bought that what, 5 years or so ago, maybe. The battery is still running fine.

If I get another watch over $150 I'll be looking for a solar powered watch or similar. Otherwise, my cell phone already keeps time for me, along with my PDA, and my iPod.

Let's face it, the watch is no longer an item of convenience as it once was. There are so many other ways of keeping track of time that the watch has become truly redundant.

Yes, it is still jewelry, and yes, it is a statement about who you are, just as much as the car you drive.

Not to say that I don't like 'em. I just like my knives more--and they don't require batteries or need to be wound up in order to use.

i am thinking about switching over to pocketwatches soon...because they won't get banged around as much as a wrist watch

they are also trimmer, sleeker, and nicer in general as far as i am concerned

i go through no name walmart watches for $20 in about six months...i just wear them right down until they give up...i guess i am hard on my wrist hangings...

I used to go thru a watch every six months or so, seems like i was corrosive to them, even some of the so called stainless watches rotted from the combination of my sweat, the chemicals at work and the acids in the saw dust. Six years ago I was given a Titanium Citizen and that watch is still running. I beat the crap out of my watches and never take them off except in the shower. only repairs to my citizen are a new crystal which was my fault, I dropped it on to a tile floor and it hit just on the corner of a loose tile, and a new pin in the band. The OEM pin let go one day, the jeweler replaced it for free.
