Where the hell did you get your info?

Elliott Sadler has the pole, with Jarrett next to him.

Are you looking at practice speeds?

Ever visit www.nascar.com ?

Leatherbird was confused as I'm sure others were by watching the practice. As I mentioned, the hotdogs had taken a few giant steps backward & were obviously sandbagging. A few laps into it,the picture came into better focus. Wreck a few laps ago scrambled it a bit but Smoke is doing his thing now . The very clever ,dashingly handsome Jeff Gordon [ I was censured for labeling him "Pretty Boy ] is 34th.

DEI is gone for today & poor Mark too. Actually ,it looked like Mark gave Junior a big Christmas goose early to trigger the wrecks . Probably wrong but other than sponsors megabucks getting trashed ,it has been a safe race .

Yeah,my bad, sorry!Practice laps had me screwed up and I'll double,no,triple check before posting my idiocy next race.Again,sorry.Does anyone like fruitcake? :)

Final lap crash brings out the caution and Dale Jarrett cruises to Talladega win Tony Stewart second but it gives Smoke the Nextel Championship points lead. 4 points in front of Ryan Newman.Unofficial results of course.Rusty Wallace and Jimmie Johnson,3rd and 4th,unofficially,for the Championship.

Man what a race! I thought Tony Stewart might grab the lead and put more peddle to the metal, Jarrett wins though and I'm glad. How about that Earnhardt Jr. commercial annoucing a new number? The 6.7 but would stick with 8. Ha Ha.

Whereinhell did the big brown truck come from ? Man,I blinked & there he was. Some super stroking ? Thought Smoke was gonna' take another . Glad to see Jarret win . I saw his dad's last race, not sure where, & admired him. Gentleman Jarret was his nickname. Might have been the race that he got in a bit of trouble & accidently triggered his C-02 bottle . Scared him & a ton of fans for a few heartbeats .
I have been fortunate enough to have seen all of the great drivers in my 57 years as a fan. The only one I missed was Lee Petty ,the man who is supposed to have given Chrysler the idea for the hemi-heads . Richard lapped a few fields with that motor .

Don't worry about goofing up . I did your CYA before you got roundtuit .
Oh ,yes, don't use the word "fruitcake " please , When I innocently asked if anyone else liked it , man, & I was soundly beaten about the head & shoulders in W & C .

uncle Alan,Thanks for coverin' my butt, those practice laps really did have me confused and I'll be more concise in my posts from now on.Talladega and Daytona are my favorite races and not for anticipation of the "big ones" but because of all the driver radio chatter to find out who will hook up with whom to get to the front.I sure do miss those monster Hemi's.A buddy of mine has a '70 or '71 Superbird,I forget,it doesn't have the Hemi but a 440 with the 6-pack Holley setup. It's Richard Petty Blue and he only drives it in our towns Homecomig parade.Even has the options paper under the back seat.Drove it once a long time ago.WOW!! The nosecone front end and clothesline rear spoiler are something we'll never see again.Anywho,Thanks! :)

N C Hp trooper near me had a red one. Kinda' lusted over it but it was too pricey for me in a new job that I sold on a commission . Had a family & they were priority # 1 . Later as I whipped up a good customer list ,I looked around & bought a 440 Coronet demo . Wish I could say it was the motor but no , it was the body style . Had a 318 & got about 22 MPG . Cheap Charlie ? No. I was driving about 50,00 miles a year & the savings would surprise you .
The bucks really rolled in when Hust Shifter was added to my line .What a great mover in those muscle car days ! Carrol Shelby produced limited Mustangs with a 4-speed & Hurst shifter . You could go through the gears as fast as you could move your wrist .
Comes a new page . Hurst & Olds came out with a very limited edition of a Hurst Olds. Biggest engine GM had I believe AND it had the "Rock-crusher transmission ".
Only way you could screw up & miss a gear was take stupid lessions. The suspension was beefed up & it changed most of the unsprung weight to solid downforce .
I considered buying one & mothballing it but wanted to drive it & show-off a bit . Realized I needed a slushomatic so I could do jottings [customers further potential for other lines ] & I couldn't do it with a 4-speed guzzler, upshifting wasn't for me .
Large towns got most of the Hurst Olds [ nameplate ] Pontiacs were hot too 'cause the revenuer's used 'em to run down 'shine haulers .A 4-car hauler drove into a small town I was selling in. It had 2 Pontiacs & 2 Hursts Olds.
A bunch of farm kids followed the hauler & in actually were going to pay full price & then the bidding started and pushing & shoving almost started a fight . I smiled & drove away .
Ask men that were teens in the early 70's & watch him grin & tell you about what he drove & what he bolted on . A bit later ,big oil started their crap & ended an exciting era.
.

Wow ! Didn't mean to do a novel .

My neighbor had a 440 'Cuda.
He dumped the 6-pack and put in a monster Holley (850?), the thing was the size of a dinner plate.
Vitar auto 'cause he couldn't shift due to a motorcycle injury and a drag geared rear end.
Because of the gearing he couldn't drive it on the Pky, would tow it to the track.
I don't remember the exact times, but it was darn quick.
Pin your head to the seat quick.
Great fun engaging the line lock at a red light and lighting up the tires.
:D
Ahhhhh, the good old days.
Then again I'm happy with my 00 Intrepid R/T, much easier to feed.
:)

Yeah, those cars.My buddy with the '71 SUPERBIRD was a MOPAR Head to the max.He picked up a Hemi out of a Super Stock from the track and dropped it in his Duster.Wanna' talk about a car,OH MAN.Tubbed rear wheelwells DANA 60 rearend.Dont know how he even got it inspected but he did.Headers, tricked out everythig, automatic but it was a B&M auto.Lived and breathed CHRYSLER'S,he had one CHEVY.His family,a MOPAR family almost disowned him.70 and a 1/2 Z-28,LT-1,360hp from the factory, solid lifters,780 vacuum secondaries Holley.Yours truly bought it from him in '81,changed the cam to a hydraulic lifter cam as the original solids had to have the valves adjusted every other week and changed the carb to a 750 double pumper,he already had the headers and Corvair Turbo mufflers on it so there wasn't much else to do.I hated gettin' rid of it but sold it back to the original owner in '86.Boy do I miss that car.Oh,yeah.uncle Alan titled his post "winged beauty",I screwed up and called it a spoiler, brain lapse,it was a wing. Those cars were awesome,I heard of one in Vegas recently selling for almost 50 grand. Also, just realized it may have sounded like I was slamming automatics when referring to my bud's Hemi Duster,I wasn't,in fact it was actually quicker than a 4 gear.Sorry for my little novel here also, just get wound up about cars as much as knives, and bikes.Done! :D

Just had a "brain fart" ! Hit google on Hemi under glass . I'd forgotten all about it.Sox & Martin ,Greensboro N C built it & it had TWO-HEMI's .
Forgotten too how they were coupled . I was impressed with the power but I'm a round track man . It supposedly was a hit on the strip. One of the builders drove it . I had freebies to a big meet but gave them away.Had Indy freebies but wife [ ex ] would not go. Should'a taken someone elses wife ,I guess.

Old too soon, smart too late !
