Taller "Wave"

I looked at some new Emersons the other day, and could not help but notice how big the wave feature is on the newer models. It's much taller now.

Anyone else notice this?

I wasn't aware of a difference until I picked up an older model Emerson recently. The first pic is a 98' Commander, the second is a 2012 CQC-15. I've also seen a difference in the wave shapes of the CQC-8 models. Unfortunately I no longer have one for pics.

In my experience the more modern, taller, blockier wave is much more "forgiving" in waving the knife than the older style wave like what is on Silvanus outstanding 98. When you pull the newer knife out of your pocket you have to make an effort to NOT wave the knife. On the older models you have to make an effort to wave the knife.

Which is why I prefer the older wave since I generally don't want to wave the knife out of my pocket.

That wave on the Karambit looks kind of shallow compared to others I've seen. Maybe it's the angle of the picture though.

Wow. Every wave in that picture is a little different. Ive never realized the subtle changes over the years.

Top is a 2002 TAD super commander, first year they were made. Below is a 2008 10 year anniversary commander. Pretty crazy how each is very different.

Evolution is one reason. Another (I think) is that the wave is bigger on this smaller blades knives for leverage. Seems because there is not as much mass in the blade that a bigger wave would help it deploy? Just a thought.

Yep the newer taller wave definately waves better (my jungle commander flew out of my pocket compared to my 2000). But they are all great imho. Only knife I've had were the wave didn't work every time though was on a 06 cqc-8 (i think this was due to the large finger guard/hilt), so I think they should all be g2g when you need em
