I believe that it has been stated on this forum that the talon hole is a registered trademark of Busse Combat Knife Co. With that in mind, has anyone noticed the "Humvee" on page 49 of the latest Blade magazine?
It's kind of ironic that they go to lengths in the fine print to state that they are licensed to use the Humvee trademark.

edited out because of the post above mine wich appeared after i posted this :)

i did notice they removed the front talon hole from the becker necker prototype in later variations.... i saw it and thought "aaaah, thats such a nice design... but i would not like to see it in production..."

ya.. thats pretty bad. not a very good looking knife. kinda reminds me of how i tend to think of the new hummers. not very solid looking.

hopefully that knife will change in the next production run....

I am also skeptical about any knife advertisement that won't state what steel is used.

there isnt any info on that knife or the "barracuda" company stamped on it on google... still looking though

it is indeed a trademark

i have sent an email to them asking that they contact busse combat regarding the use of the talon hole, though a phone call would probably be faster... hope im not stepping out of line with the email, so i'll leave the phonecall up to jerry or anyone else who wants to adress it

edit: okay i lied. i left a message regarding it

Seth, I would have to lean on the side of what would be legally and professionally correct. Even though you only sent a simple email, that act of initiating contact should be reserved for those legally affected....in this case Busse Combat...not one of their customers.

While we may be more dedicated than most, there are lines we as customers cannot cross. Getting in the middle of matters that deal with the inner workings of Busse Combat is one of those lines.

The Humvee looks a bit like the Active Duty to me - basically because of the handle. However, with a "higher back" and a "really fat butt" ... no, I don't like it. Can't beat the form of the AD. The Humvee looks also similar to the Darrel Ralph design I posted in the other thread ...

i say we drink some blue label and go kick them in the talon hole

We spoke with the folks at Frost Cutlery and all is well.

In most cases other manufacturers are not intentionally infringing on our trademark. This was the case with Frost.

Luckily, we are part of a small industry where gentlemen can simply contact eachother personally and resolve these issues without all of the oft required litigation.

Good folks over there at Frost Cutlery.

There have been many quiet resolutions to Busse trademark infringements in the past.

All in all we are in an industry where integrity runs high.

Thanks,

Jerry

I handled one of these knives today at a gun show. It was not labeled "Humvee", but was otherwise identical to the one pictured. Nothing to write home about. No steel identification on it. I think it was called the "Barracuda", but am not certain about this. (Senility is hell, but you do daily get to meet a lot of nice new people.)
