Talonite, age hardened?? HOW?

I think Rob Simonich has barrels full of it that he checks on a daily basis with a Rockwell tester

Maybe certain years are better than others also!
I hope Rob JUMPS in here, because I would like to know about this too!

That would be cool if it was age hardening. Big production companies could make the knives while its soft to keep production cost down, then wait for it to harden and sell them. As long as it doesn't take 20 years or anyhitng like that.

Hi guys, I just got back from the SHOT Show and am still in shock, and tired as well.

The Age Hardening process is accomplished by clampling the hot rolled billets between 2 4" thick steel plates and then loaded into a reducing atmosphere furnace and then brought to a certain tempeature and held for a certain time then air quenched. I dont know the temperature or time involved however. This treatment raises the rockwell hardness and I believe helps to homogonize the structure of the material, but the last is just a guess.

Neil, you been peeking in my window again?

Matt, wish it was as easy as that!

Thanks for the explanation Rob. Hope you had a good time at the Shot show. Are you sure you can't put it on a shelf for 2 years and have it harden itself? I think your trying to keep us uninformed folks in the dark so we have to come to you for all our talonite
