I had a customer come to me and ask to have a particular model Bird & Trout Knife made asap.Jessica Bybee hooked me up with a piece of .070" x 1.0" x 8.0" Talonite. It was my first time working with the material and I must say it will be a constant in my material offering for Blades.Customer wanted Blk.Linen Micarta scales,Corby fasteners & S.S. Thong Tubing.Due to the .070" Talonite I decided to grind a convex edge to maintain all the material for rigidity that was possible. To my surprise the talonite ground fairly easy,I had to profile the Blade completely on the KMG as I was not set-up with a carbide saw blade,(Bi-Metal won't touch this stuff).Drilling was a piece of cake w/solid carbide drills and the finger grooves were milled with a .062" e-mill.Fixed him up with a Kydex sheath and he was a VERY HAPPY CAMPER.The Blade I was told surpassed all his expectations (which just made my day!)The material takes on the most wicked edge of any material I have ever used, its "slippery properties" makes it cut completely different than conventional steels too.All in all a very nice package. It's an old design with state of the art materials (which, like I said I will be using more often)
