Talonite in production knives?

Are there currently any companies using Talonite for their knives?
Does anyone know of any companies planning the use of this material in any of their future knives?
Any thoughts on good models for this type of blade material?

EDI with Genesis I in talonite for one. They anounced this a long time ago, but so far no production yet.

I think REKAT made some Talonite Carnivours.
T.O.P.S. is offering the Shadow Hunter. As for as a field/utility knife, you should contact Simonich Knives. Rob Simonich has crafted some stunning protos and has collaborated with Dr. Ron Hood to produce the Kanji. Check it out. Jason

My understanding of the EDI situation is that the idea of the Genesis I in Talonite (r) died when Will Fennell left. Will is now with Camillus, and when I asked him about any plans for Camillus producing a folder with a Talonite (r) blade, he kept asking about football and baseball teams.

Rob Simonich has produced Cetans and Wamblis for some time in Talonite (r). I have the first Cetan, and bald1 the first Wambli made in this cobalt alloy. These are both medium sized fixed blades. Rob also produces other knives in Talonite; check his website:

Several custom makers also feature Talonite (r): Kit Carson, Darrell Ralph and Ed Schott come to mind immediately.

It is good stuff. Check it out. Walt

Walt,

Thanks for the info. How do you like Talonite as a blade material.

Thank you all others for answering as well.

Allen Blade is making the MEUK knives, which are Talonite and essentially production, hand-made production, but production nonetheless.

RJ Martin is playing with Talonite.

I have money down on a Shadow Hunter, held one at a show, very cool, so very, very cool.

Simonich is going to be offering production Talonite, call him anyway, he is the center of Talonite.

What we've seen so far is a growing number of customer makers experimenting with Talonite (R) and several manufacturers / semi-custom houses offering limited numbers of Talonite (r) knives. What we have not seen yet is a full blown production run by a major manufacturer.

I predict that will come to pass too

Walt,

Is it true that EDI's Talonite project has died? Noooooo...! Oh well. But I'd really like to see Talonite used in production knives, like Bob said. I'd imagine the price for one production knife in Talonite will also become dangerously close to a custom one. All the more reason to get one directly from Rob, I think.

You certainly can't go wrong with Rob Simonich as a knifemaker, or a friend for that matter. He is an all around nice guy.

The amount of Talonite (r) used in knives is rather small, so don't be frightened by the high ($140/lb) price. Kit Carson made me a great #18 folder, with a 4 1/4" Talonite (r) blade, and the extra cost for the labor and for the Talonite (r) was $60, total cost about $500, IIRC.

Talonite only gets really pricey when you use it in 1/4" thickness, which is a special order item. Kit Carson is making me a large U-2 Dive Knife, and the Talonite (r) for this knife was about $350. Walt

Actually, I like to think of it as the time I got into Rob's wife's pants, but I can see where he would see it another way <g> Walt

Rob,

Didn't you tell me that you were going to have DC put that pic of Walt up on your web page with a caption about Walt getting even for that stunt you pulled sending him that bark & string handled non-friction tin bladed piece of #$$%???

On the other hand, you have my e-mail addy if you want to share! ROTFLMAO!!! I can just see it now, especially after seeing Doc in his bermudas at the first Knifenguggen (SIC)_!!!

Walt, I know you're a good sport, but now that you've hit Rob with that play on pants thingee, it might just be a fair turnabout to have it posted here <hehehehehehee>.

Golly, it's great to have some fun HERE AGAIN!!!!!! Thanks guys!!!!
