Who makes 'em? Who's got 'em available? Who's used 'em? Who loves 'em?
I need a good neck knife for ocean kayaking and I don't trust ceramic, titanium has its limitations and talonite seems the best option. Is there any way to avoid the interminable wait that is inevitable if you want a Simonich or similar very busy maker's custom? Any Canadians working in Talonite?

I have Rob Simonich's first which we named the "Talisman". You can see it with the link below my sig.

Not sure who can make you one without much of a waiting time unless they are available in the secondary market.

try neil blackwood, good guy, short turnaround time, some interesting designs, he goes by the name dr lathe. he has a link to his site in his signature

Thanks guys.I will check out your suggestions.
Rob, I wish you came to Canada for the CKG shows. Maybe you could give Les a Talonite neck knife or two for his visit in April? I'm already waiting on a Vanguard Chinook and I'd love a Talonite folder. The material sounds incredible, and the praise for you personally is uniform. I can't wait to try the Chinook out for myself. Drool, drool.

Thanks Guys!
Several variations of my Small Hunter are available in Talonite. The ones mentioned in my signature line are sold but I will have more ready VERY soon.
I also just finished my first Talonite LiteWave. This HAS to be the MOST extreme neck knife I have EVER made

It will be in the hands of its new owner soon and I'm looking forward to a review!

Neil's tactical/utility and the medium hunter are particularly gorgeous. Methinks only the first is possible as a neck knife. Does anyone have any comments on those two beauties? Are they as good as they look?

HJK,
Thanks!
You are right! Only the Small Hunter/Utility is neck knife size. In addition to tapering the tang I also drill weight reduction holes in it. This makes for a VERY light knife that is no problem to carry all day in its neck sheath. There has been reviews of both knives as well as others in the Review and Testing area. I have to figure out how to link to the archives!!!
The main difference between the standard Small Hunter and the Utility version is the grind radius. The Hunter is ground on a larger contact wheel resulting in higher grind lines and a flatter grind. I also give them a little more "belly". The Utility is ground on a smaller wheel, pruducing deeper grinds and a stronger blade. It also has a false edge that leaves maximum material at the point for strength.
I hope this is of some help
