I have a Co-Worker that loves to fish the Chesapeake Bay and I am looking at a nice gift for him. (Probably a group gift for retirement or something like that.)

Would Talonite be suitable for a Filet Knife large enough to handle Rockfish and such?

Any makers out there doing Talonite Filet Knives?

I realize that there might be better steels but one of my concerns is that he is not a Knife Knut and I don't want anything that will be a problem to sharpen.

I think Talonite would be a great choice on a filet knife. Just my opinion, but I love the stuff.

If I remember correctly, Tom Mayo didn't think Talonite was the best choice of blade material for a large fillet knife.... to do striped bass. When I asked Tom to do one for me, he sent me to Phil Wilson...

I got my fillet knife from Phil just after the Blade Show. The blade is 154 CM at RC 60... and is SUPER sharp. (real nice handle too... I'll try to post a pic) Phil does his own heat treat and it seems like he really has it down! I have done 23 striped bass (all over 34") and have not even touched up the blade!! (I'm afraid I might mess it up!!)

I have the product info that Phil sent me and would be willing to forward it to anyone who emails me...

That's what Phil calls it!!!

(This is not a picture of my knife, but it is one by Phil Wilson. Hope he doesn't mind my posting of his picture...)
