I have read that knives made out of these materials are "nonmagnetic," knives such as those provided by Missionknives, Rob Simonich, and Camillus... does this mean you can wear them through a metal-detector, and not set off the alarms. This is kind of worrying, given that the WTC-destroying planes were hijacked by knife-wielding individuals... could they have walked through airport security carrying such knives?

Larry,

I suppose in the olden days metal detectors worked off magnetic materials - OK Iron. But I don't think that's true anymore.

A friend has titanium bolts in his spine. Sets off the detectors just fine. I do wonder if ceramic blades would go thru. However, they won't make it thru the xray. The shape would show up.

Just my $.02 ... I think the knife trick worked on WTC, because America was full of sheep. I'd like to believe that won't work anymore because the sheep aren't asleep. It isn't a metal detector that will save the day next time - it's Americans (or Aussies or Germans or Mexicans or ....).

If someone pulls a knife on a plane these days, I'm sure the other passengers would hammer the guy to a pulp before he could say, "Please stay in your seats."
