I just visited blade forum.com and they had a very interesting topic on talonite. How many have heard of talonite? Sounds like some good stuff. Anybody know how brittle it is? Talonite blade and titanium handles- sounds too good to be true, I'm sure some law of nature will screw that pair up.

If talonite can be used in balisongs I personally know Rob Simonich, the knife maker who teamed up with Camillus cutlery to produce a knife with a talonite blade. Please let me know if talonite would be feasable in a balisong, if it is Rob lives five miles away from me and I would personally talk to him if anybody is interested in a talonite bladed balisong. Mabe I will talk with Rob and see if he has ever made them or would consider making them. Rob is a top of the line knife maker,I own one of his knives and love it. Let me know what you think, I want an excuse to swing by and visit him, he is one hell of a nice quy.

I believe that talonite will shatter if dropped, I don't think it would be good for a balisong to be manipulated, maybe good just for looks/collectability purposes.

Chuck and I spoke with Rob Simonich at Ruby Tuesdays after the Atlanta show, and he actually seemed a bit interested in the Model 42s I had with me.

I think he would be up to the challenge if we could get enough interested buyers.

Chuck spent more time with him, as I had to go......... so, maybe he can tell us more.

Rob has already promised to replace the blade in a BM42 with Talonite for me. We'd both had a few (maybe more than a few) at the time, so we'll see how serious he is. A BM42 is on the way to him though it's going a rather long path some other makers want to see the thing disassembled before the blade is replaced. So, it's making the rounds.

My understanding is that Talonite is rather brittle and has a bit of a reputation for shattering. But, I haven't dropped a balisong in... well... in several days, so it should be fine.

Hi Guys,

Darrel Ralph and I discussed this exact project and he is a bit apprehensive that when dropped the point on the Talonite knife could take a "bend" due to the softness of the material (45RC).

This is strictly an educated guess as no one (to my knowledge) has dropped a Talonite bladed Bali yet.

FYI I am going to have a Talonite blade put into my Model 42 and will report more on this as the project comes along.

Someone should talk to Tom Mayo about a Ti-bladed 42. Talonite&Titanium seem to be his specialty (along with lots of holes in the handle

). I thought I was the only one who had this idea (not that I'm buying custom balis at the moment, but I just thought it would be kinda cool).
