Talwar recommendation? 4” vs. 5.5” vs. Recon 1

Hey all,

I am loving my serrated and plain edge Recon 1’s as well as my Rajah III. An American Lawman is in the mail and I’m sure it will also be fantastic.

I have started looking at the Talwar but wanted to get some thoughts from the CS loving folks on BF....

- How does the 4” Talwar feel in the hand and front pocket compared to the Recon 1 or even Rajah III?
- Is the 5.5” Talwar stupidly large in the hand and pocket or is it EDC-able? Or even in a coat pocket or cargo pants or on a belt in the woods?
- Same lock and blade stock, so similar toughness and reliability?

Any other things I am overlooking or any weird quirks with the Talwar?

Thanks!

The Talwars are amazing Demko designs, you should check them out before they are gone.

The 4" fits my large hand well, I've read comments that people with XL hands feel cramped though. I would say the 4" is about the same in the pocket as a Recon 1 and not as blocky as the Rajah III.

The XL is indeed stupidly large (and awesome) in the hand. If you can EDC a Recon 1 XL, I suppose you could adapt to the XL Talwar. Obviously that blade in public would scare the crap out of a lot of people though.

Hey mate, I have two 4" Talwars and they are fantastic knives. Has a different shape handle as the Recons but the same 'locked in' feeling as the Recons when in hand, some people think even more so, but all depends on yoru hands and preference, either way it feels very good, especially being able to rest your thumb on the thumb plate. I took a few pics with my Recons with some grips to help u get a picture, i have medium/large hands, not crazy large but not small by any means. The huge belly on the Talwars is nice to use also, feels just as good in pocket as the Recon, even a bit lighter. Sorry i don't have the XL Talwar just yet, hope this helps you out. Cheers

I have a Talwar and a Talwar XL. The regular 4" is a nice pocket knife, if you like 'em large. The XL is my folding machete! Works great but I carry it in my field pack.

Awesome pics. Thank you!

Unless you wear pants with teeny weeny pockets there's almost never a reason not to carry an XL folder. I've got 14 CS XL folders, only the XL Espada is sometimes a little challenging to carry.

The XL Talwar is pretty huge in the hand, but yes, it is easily edc-able in normal jeans, cargo pants, etc.

I have the Rajah1,2, the XL Recon 1, the XL Voyagers, and the Lg,XL Talwars. They are all tacticool, and fun to collect. I only carry the 4"models. IMO the XLs are too big for shorts/Florida weather. I love the small/medium hand friendly grip on the Lg, Xl Talwars. "Quirks"? Here's one: Most of my XLs have strong detent, and will chop off your fingertips if you aren't careful. I just open and close with two hands.

To me Recon 1 has the best ergonomics. While also comfortable in hand, Talwar handle is a bit too slim, and my hands are not big at all. The knife is beautiful though and you should definitely check it out.

If you have large hands I recommend avoiding the 4 inch talwar, It fits in my 2xl hands but it isn't comfortable.

Get a recon 1 imho.

The 4" Talwar is too small for my hands, so I prefer the 5.5" version.

It's easy to carry and I EDC it from time to time.

i love my 4" talwar and it fits my med hands perfectly and ive beat the hell out of it and it still lock up solid every time.

ive been trying to find a plane blade talwar but no luck
Same here, preferably in cts xhp. Id get the extra large one but im afraid it'll get me in TOO much trouble if caught with it in public and for the price id rather not have it taken away. 4 inch looks more concealable and controllable, Then again i've never held either so don't listen to me:D
