Tan G10 and dirt/soiling?

I've got my eye on a knife with tan G10 handles (Emerson's Afghan tan, which has a coarse weave), and all my G10 knives in the past have been black.

I've seen pictures of knives with Spyderco's light-grey G10 that show a fair amount of dirt and grime. My first impression is negative -- they look soiled, not worn. I like wear and signs of use, but somehow that's not the same as being dirty. (Not picking on Spyderco -- this is just the first example I thought of.) I've also found a few pictures of tan-handled Emersons with some grime on them, but it's hard to say from a photo if that's two weeks' worth or five years' worth.

I know G10 isn't too hard to clean, but on my black-handled knives it's incredibly rare for them to need cleaning. They just don't show dirt that easily.

If you've used and carried a knife with light-colored G10 scales before, how did it wear in? Did it look pleasantly used, kind of gross, or something else? How often did you clean the handle?

All anecdotes welcome, pictures doubly so -- and pictures of well-loved tan-handled Emersons triply so. :D:thumbsup: Thanks in advance.

never been a problem for me. easy to clean. wet or sticky dirt or crud will stick as well as grease etc. stuff dirty hands place on it over time depending on whats on ones hands. normal pocket carry and fairly clean hands doing box opening, package opening things of this nature will never be an issue. least from my experiences with it.

Thanks!

That's good to hear, as it's most of what I do. My daily carry also goes camping, gets tossed in with my keys, and the like as well, but it's mostly not used around a lot of dirt.

I have some light-colored G10-handled knives and I clean 'em. They do show dirt.

How often do you find they nees a good cleaning?

I have some light tan and gray G10 scales. They do show dirt quickly, but clean up well.
